I'm experiencing some issues with microfiber towels leaving a residue. It may be from a poor laundering technique or the towels breaking down and time to throw out? I'll be buying some new towels soon and am curious what towels you all recommend for windscreen and general cleaning? Obviously I want something of good quality.

I like the ones CubCrafters gave me with the plane in the cleaning kit. Checked it while cleaning tonight and it's the Kirkland brand. Need to run to Costco and get a batch and see how they work out.

I think it's something that may have happened in the laundry, maybe there was softener involved and that's what's coming off? I don't know. I think what does matter when choosing microfiber towels is to try and avoid ones with the sewed seams which I think the threads could cause scratching? The kirkland brand did not have those that I remember.

I have always assumed that they are disposable, not reusable. You start with new ones for the windows, and once they are at all dirty, you move them for general cleaning, and once they get dirty, they get retired.

I just get bulk "unhemed" ones from Canadian Tire, as that is closer than an auto detail supply shop.

I follow the same pattern as ve6yeq. I order mine from amazon

We rotate ours.
I’m in a flying club where we clean off the bugs after every flight. In the hangar we have a “Clean” and a “Dirty” box. When “Clean” starts getting low, the “Dirty” get laundered. We”ve been doing it this way for 7 years with no problem.

Looks like Costco has a 324 back for $150. I may try the disposable route, although that seems like a waste. Maybe you northerners don't have bugs like us down south :)

If the damn mosquitos get any bigger up here the FAA is going to start require transponders on them. Hell last summer an FBO fueled a mosquito with 4k of jet a and the damn thing still managed to lift off! 🤣

Microfiber towels work great but if you wash them with regular detergent or use any fabric softener, they loose all there effectiveness. They have to be washed in a microfiber detergent. I bought this about 4 year ago and I still have plenty left.

Here in Central Illinois, in corn and soybean country, there are plenty of bugs, they coat the plane in summer. What works for me is distilled water in a spray bottle, spray it when their little bodies are still squishy and wipe their corpses off with a microfiber towel. I use distilled water to wipe the plane down and then polish the bug surfaces with Bug Slide, works great! Amazon.com

Good info @Cubonaut875 - but you left out your credit card number :)

I just ordered another 6-pack of the turtle wax - love this stuff. I've been trying to use my wash & wax-all as I have a gallon of it but the turtle wax seems to work the best.

I gotta watch that copy and paste !

While I don't have distilled water yet, I have been using the bug slide. Stuff seems to be working great for cleaning bugs off and also polishing leaving a nice finish. Thanks @Cubonaut875. You're a wealth of great tips :)
