For what its worth, you currently need about 7 years for upgrade. I think the predicted quick upgrades are due to the fact that Mesa has recently announced additional airplanes to nearly doubles its fleet size over the next couple of years. Those quick upgrades have not happened yet - as the new planes arrive, the longevity required will quickly drop. Bear in mind that just a year ago, the bottom FO on property was nearly at 6 years with the company.

Nine 900s have been delivered so far. 30 EMB175s coming, and 4 more 900s confirmed yesterday. Additional rumor (with some evidence that lends merit) for yet another 10 900s that have not been announced. That would take the total growth announced within the last year to either 43 or 53 (depending on whether the latest rumor for 10 more is realized) - nearly doubling Mesa's fleet size from what it was a year ago.

175s for Usair?

It's the new business model for regional feed. Have one regional partner to do the majority of flying. Then, have a token amount done by a bargain carrier just to keep the first in cost-check.

My speculation is this won't work for long as the "bargain" carriers won't have the pilots to compete.

Not that I know of - The 175s I was referring to are the ones Mesa is slated to operate for United. I suppose they're not part of the Mesa fleet, but for staffing purposes they are.

Can you think of a better way to put cost preasure on SKW.... Just have Mesa through in a bid... They (Mesa) are behind on there E175 program. How would they get 200's back up and running again...

Just curious, where did you read this? I had not heard this.

I think Mesa will already have a heck of a time staffing the 30 E175's as well as the 4 addtional CRJ 900's and any attrition to come about with new pilots. Mesa already had a hard time just finding them for the 9 CRJ 900's we finally got staffed 6 months after the last one came online. All the regionals are already having a hard time finding pilots with 1500 hours. So I think that Airways dropping Skywest and giving more flying to Mesa is next to impossible for Mesa to handle at this point in the game.

FWIW, the 175's are United's aircraft. Mesa is just crewing the planes. If there are multiple delivery shifts due to Mesa's 175 program, it's United's decision.

There will be a total of 10 (including the four recently announced) They will be in addition to the 30 E175's.

Mesa has a 10 year contract for these planes and an option for 30 more. They will be on Mesa's certificate and will be leased from UAL. Virtually every aircraft in the industry is leased from somebody. The contract can only be terminated for cause.

Just left a recurrent GS meeting with Senior Execs. Mesa is ahead of schedule on the 175 program. 1st aircraft to be delivered in April. Mesa has not shifted any dates.
