I just can't imagine why it would even cross their minds to terminate him in the first place...
Because in VdV's mind, anything less than absolute adoration and devotion to SWA is unacceptable. Even the mere thought that things might be slightly better somewhere else is treason and unimaginable to him.
No, it was done for purely monetary reasons. "He's leaving, he doesn't need our pay or benefits, he's terminated now, do it".Because in VdV's mind, anything less than absolute adoration and devotion to SWA is unacceptable. They'll handle it just like the previous 40 years they were not the top paid, all the way to the bank.If this is true, then WN has much larger 'culture' problem than I ever imagined. How will those hired there in the last ten years handle it when they are no longer the top paid pilots in the industry? I suspect for many, the 'culture' might be only as lasting as having the largest paycheck and the 5ish year upgrade.
If this is true,....

The culture has nothing to do with the money, that's an often misrepresented idea. The idea is, we, in the jet, are the culture. How we treat each other, how the company treats us, etc. Now, I admit, the company treatment of it's employees has been on a decline, but the culture between employees is for all intensive purposes fine, with the exception of outliers.
It's FI, from the biggest anti SWA agenda on the internet-
c'mon now, you know less than anything about SWA if you get it from FI
We haven't had 5 year upgrades since age 65 and we do have a culture problem- but if we have a culture problem, we have 1/3 of the culture problem every other airline has- it's a problem and SWA can do better- but perspective is on us as a pilot group too- how many pissed off pilots have we all known who had great contracts
There's a big difference being the lowest paid if everyone leapfrog's us vs us taking a paycut-
I hope the culture is that strong. My point is mostly in reference to those who came to WN because they have been at the top of the pile (since 2001 or so), who perhaps would have gone to UAL or DAL had they not had their CBAs destroyed by bankruptcy. I think it speaks volumes about the culture of the workforce if they can provide the same positive environment even being mid-pack in terms of compensation and advancement. It's definitely a transitional period for WN in more ways than one.

Why? You gonna PFT to fly it again, sellout?General-
Don't you have another RJ to sellout?

I agree with you. Many of the guys at the bottom who KNOW there will be stagnation may want to look around for something better, but this threat may have them feeling nervous. So much for the "LUV" culture.....
Bye Bye---General Lee
Good to hear. It's a shame that the process had to go through those steps. I'm sure pilots leaving is a new reality that this mgmt. would not be easily swayed towards accepting. Glad they did the right thing when faced by a "major uproar" by the pilots, adds insight to other situations.
Yes
General lee
The AUTHORITY on southwest culture
Lurkers: please ignore ANYONE WHO ACTUALLY WORKS AT SWA- and just pay attention to general lee. You just won't know the industry if you don't really take to heart his public service announcements.
Maybe we'll merge Mamma and you can find out
I work at Alaska. I am treated fairly and as a professional by my company with no false expectations. We are bonded together as employees of a company and all pull to make sure we keep our vested livlihoods moving forward. As pilots we have little choice given the alternative. It's a business where professionalism is expected in both directions. So what exactly is so different now at SWA that makes you feel so special? What is this culture makes you feel better than all the rest? I don't see it.
Like you did you hypocritical prick? Some disenfranchised pilot not on your seniority list will-
And YOU as the hypocritical azzwipe who took that job! Then, when she couldn't get hired anywhere, bought her job at southwest! And when they do, as you put more and more pilots in that sh-tty position, remember it IS YOU, as the major airline pilot with a VOTE who allowed that whipsaw market to exist
Maybe.
Like you did you hypocritical prick?

Well done wavegirl! You're the epitome of DOOSH BAG!

Funny. I was just thinking your DELTA REQUIRED four college degree was how to be a BS in DOOSHBAGGERY.
Go figure.
How much did that cost? Haha.
You know, if you give yourself a heart attack over me pointin out what SELLOUTS DALPA pilots are, I don't benefit by moving up a number.... So.... Just calm down and eat some fruit or something-
and realize I was furloughed by mainline at the same time you voted to outsource even more jets- so feel free to call me whatever you want- I HONESTLY stopped giving a f^ck what the average baby boomer legacy pilot thought about the time the first large RJ's started showing up on regional properties.
And who's a d*uche? You really think calling me a girl is some sort of insult? Why dont you call me a fag and complete the cycle you moronic bitch.
Luv,
Waveflyer
Not as much as Red-liar's type rating! Why does your airline still require that again? Sooooo stoooopid.
