Yeah.... What's next? First the 50 seat plane was just a RJ..... Then 70 seat CRJ-700 was allowed to be an RJ. Then nobody ever thought the CRJ-900 would be allowed. Now you are going to see the EMB 175 with 3 Class seating, wifi, Power Adapters and a 2,000nm range that's an RJ..... I'm sure the EMB-190 and C-Series will be next.

No, I disagree. The reason the RJs got bigger, to 76 seats from 70 seats, was mainline BKs. The judges who oversaw them put pressure on the union and it wasn't really a choice. Now that Consolidation has occurred, the remaining big 3 will only get stronger (notice $1.3 billion quarter), and that means fewer concessions at the bargaining table, especially when it comes to scope. I don't see anything larger than 76 seaters at the remaining Regionals, and those will be limited by the scope clauses. E190s and C Series at the Regionals? Very doubtful. But, 15,000 retirements at the big 3 over the next 10 years...

PSA Pilots Welcome American Airlines Announcement of New Aircraft Order
Business Wire Air Line Pilots Association, Intl (ALPA) 14 minutes ago
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The PSA Airlines pilots Master Executive Council, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Intl (ALPA), issued the following statement in response to today?s announcement by American Airlines Inc. of an order for 30 Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen aircraft, with options for up to 40 more. PSA Airlines Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of US Airways, will operate the new aircraft on behalf of American, which expects to begin taking delivery of the aircraft in the second quarter of 2014.

The pilots of PSA Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of US Airways, welcome the news of American Airlines purchase of 30 CRJ900s as an important and exciting step forward for PSA. This firm order fulfills the pledge made to us in a letter of commitment our pilots ratified in September.

"When PSA pilots voted on our new contract in March, and on subsequent agreements, we had to make some difficult decisions. As a result, we preserved core provisions in our contract and improved pilots job security here at PSA and career progression to our mainline partner. Today's announcement of a new aircraft order, coupled with our first scheduled seniority-based interviews at US Airways, prove that our tough decisions have borne fruit.

While we acknowledge that the planned delivery schedule of these new aircraft is ambitious, the pilots of PSA stand ready to work with our managements to protect and improve our airline and our futures as an integral part of the new American Airlines."

Yowza!

No growth, no upgrade. Swapping an old 50 seater for a new shiney jet. Much like men do with their old g/fs or wives

So, what you're saying is, "there's a chance they will". Of course it's up to people like you Mercy-full-of-it, not to erase that line, again. RA knows how to get what he wants so y'all better be ready for it so we regional pukes can get outa here someday!

No one can really predict what will happen with the 50's. As of now their leases are until 2018, and they will most likely remain as long as they can be finacially justified. Be that though lease agreements, fuel price drops, who knows. My prediction is the option for the additional 40 a/c will be the replacement for those 50 seaters in 2019. But PSA is hiring a lot of flight crew, cabin crew, and mechanics. Being fat on employees is never been something any regional has relished so I would say this is growth.

Didn't anyone notice?

"American says it has ordered 30 Bombardier CRJ900 regional jets and placed options for 40 more. From Embraer, AA has placed a firm order for 60 Embraer E175 jets with options for 90 more."

Embraer makes CRJs ?

Hi, there is a period after "40 more" meaning you stop reading. Then "From Embraer" has a comma, meaning you pause. Welcome to reading 101....???

the same way they work the ground handling

And that is why the ramps look like the local State Prison had a work release program.

Message from the Chairman

Fellow Eagle Pilots:

Yesterday we received a formal proposal from Eagle Management regarding the placement of large RJs on our property in exchange for additional concessions to achieve the company?s structure objectives. The proposal is extensive and touches a number of sections in our collective bargaining agreement. We briefed the MEC immediately following the meeting and engaged in a very spirited debate on the merits of the proposed changes. The MEC debate on a response will continue up through our meeting on January 2nd when the MEC will determine how to respond to Eagle management. To allow you the opportunity to advise your LEC representatives, the following is a general summary of their offer:

Potential Upside

The company would agree to increase the "metering" commitment under the existing 824 agreement from 20 to 30 beginning in September 2014. They would still send 20 per month or 50% of the AA new hire classes until then (subject to metering and ALPA?s grievance)

They would increase the percentage of new hire obligations under the "protected pilot" agreement to 50% from the current 35% and send a minimum of 30 per month if AA hires 60 or more that month.

The amended terms of the protected pilot agreement would be extended to all pilots hired after October 11, 2011 and to any Eagle new hires.

Downside

The agreement would extend until 2024 with little opportunity to amend it.

We would have to transition to a compensation model that incorporates wage caps for Captains at 12 years and 4 years for First Officers very similar to what the pilots at PSA recently agreed to. The transition would occur over roughly a four-year period.

Per diem would be reduced by $.20 on the date of signing with some incremental increases.

The employee contribution for medical coverage would increase by 5% in about a year.

We would accrue vacation at a slightly different rate and would lose the fifth week altogether.

Allow the company to train crews on the EMB 175 months before we receive it and then return them to their previous equipment until the deliveries begin.

We would adopt a 401k plan and sick accrual system that mirrors the current PSA contract.

Our current profit sharing plan would be suspended.

The proposal only guarantees a fleet of 60 aircraft

We plan to post the details of PSA's provisions on the Eagle ALPA website as well as a contract comparison of other regional airlines that are more similar to our operation.

The company indicated to us that, without what they consider to be a cost competitive agreement, they will place the aircraft with a competing carrier and we would become "Comair II".

It's important to be patient while the MEC digests the offer and determines how best to respond to management. It is equally important that you engage your LEC representatives to provide the perspective they will need to make that determination. There are many moving pieces in a process like this, so the details are likely to change. While the MEC has committed to working in an expedient manner, if there is an agreement with the company, it will be subject to pilot ratification.

I'll keep you updated as we proceed toward a response.

Fly safe.

Bill Sprague
MEC Chairman

To allow you the opportunity to advise your LEC representatives, ...
I'm jealous. You actually have reps that work for you, not the other way around.

Stay strong. Look at the absurdity of the situation--right now, every single regional management is threatening to "Comair" their company if their pilots don't agree to work for less so management can earn more. It's not even like the airline industry is struggling right now.

They can't shut us ALL down. You would think having a common union would allow us to coordinate a common defense, one of just saying NO all at once. Too bad ALPA is bought and paid for; nevertheless, we need to do this ourselves, one at a time, just on principle.

Name one industry besides the regional airlines that a CEO or Company Leader will come to there employee's saying we have excited new equipment coming that will allow our company that's making money now to even make more money with the use of this new bigger equipment........... But first you have to take a paycut to use it???? LOL.... Most people would say What the F'!!! Hell no!!! But not the Regional Pilot sector where we've been screwing each other for years. Here's your sign!!! PSA is already holding the sign....... Who's next?

Yeah that's a big win for the profession. Thanks mainline pilots for voting away your scope.

If back in 2000 the Delta MEC Chuck Giambuso (sp) and ALPA would have pulled their head out of their ass they could have stopped all of this.

Oh well...
