Rumor is they are going to merge. Starting nov. park one 200 and one dash, and add two 900's to birding fleet combined to 89 aircraft.

What would be the benefit of a PSA/PDT merger? It has been released in the past that it may have saved 22 million in 2005. That is chump change in the airline business.

Benefit? Staffing regional feed. They need (sadly) us PDT pilots. There is nothing attractive about working here... but combine the two and you might keep your needed feed flying.

Totally unsure what HHI is, but as an operator in and out of HHH/HXD in the Dash for PDT, I sure found Parker's words about DFW-HHH fascinating. A runway extension isn't necessarily as important as tree cutting, as far as direct operational impact. The terminal can't handle an E175 as a taxi in and turn out, and I doubt the taxiways can (trees, yet different reasons). Either way, the island hates the idea of runway extension and/or cutting trees. Plenty of boredom fodder if you look for it on google regarding this issue.

What was the title of this thread?

Oh yeah. PDT/PSA merge. Whatever. It'll be a bloodbath if it happens.

Hopefully they will never extend the runway. It's a waste of money. SAV is 45 minutes away. If that 45 minute drive is too long, pay up for the convenience.

Hopefully they will never extend the runway.

That was my point, and my premise was flawed. Following my own advice, I found this:

and this:

Either way, the push is there. Parker knows some things we don't.

What was this thread about?

So 50,000 passengers per year should pay for a multi million dollar runway extension so USAir can make more money. Righttttt....that should work out just like Obamacare.

"Hilton Head previously charged a $3 passenger fee from 2000 to 2007. The airport collected about $1.4 million from that fee. The money was used to buy land for the control tower and general aviation development."

So USAir essentially paid for the control tower's land and general aviation development...the last thing we need is those local yokels spending more of the airline's revenue.

I edited my post to include some more numbers. I am at a loss trying to understand the local yokels vs. airline money.

And please, PLEASE drop USAir. It's another lingering malaprop for the name of the airline, much like "circling the airport" for holding and "tarmac" or "runway" for all airport surfaces outside security.

If USAir could charge another 1.50 for a ticket, they would. But they can't. Any extra fee equals a reduction in passenger traffic. That's a loss of revenue for USAir, which means they are paying for whatever the local yokels decide to spend it on. Like an unnecessary runway extension.

I was shocked when I landed at HXD about a year and and saw that they had cut trees down on the approach end of RW21. As Sig mentioned, proper clearways and being able to use the full length of the existing runway would help a LOT even without extending the runway.

I always figured the penalty for killing a human on Hilton Head was less than killing a tree.
