The pilot is an idiot.
Poorly handled for sure, how many times all of us have had to deal with a drunk at a gate area? Engaging in an argument with a passenger is not our job, little alone someone who is drunk, call the cops and let them handle it!

The pilot is an idiot.

Agreed. If you haven't thrown a punch since the 5th Grade, now is not the time to act like a tough-guy.

Here's the entire video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMwCL3L-AsQ

If you look at the video, you'll see:
1) an RJ parked at the gate, and
2) gate A4.

The A gates at Dulles are express, not mainline. That doesn't rule out that this pilot could easily have been United mainline, as he may have been deadheading or jumpseating.

My take: The pilot was being an azzhole. He intentionally egged on a drunk and got the reaction he wanted. Do I have a right to cast stones? No; I've done the same here and in other places.

This video is a cautionary tale to me. Make sure that I do everything 'by the book' because I never know when someone's filming me. This world is turning into an Orwellian nightmare; George Orwell's fortunate in that he's been worm food for more than 60 years and never saw his worst faustian visions become reality.

Wow. Talk about how not to handle a situtation. Everything that pilot did was wrong from A to Z. What a tool bag.

Wow, I can't believe how long it took for the police to arrive. Anyone have any idea where this was or how long ago?

TSA pilot at IAD terminal A about two weeks ago.

Social media is the exact reason to avoid this type of confrontation. Everyone loves this type of thing- stay out of the way in uniform, and let the authorities handle it. Just the fact that the drunk was communicating threats is enough to warrant an arrest. As soon as the pilot was threatened with physical assault, he should have been over with the agent calling the authorities. The guy was going to "camp" at that point anyway.

hahahaha now that is funny business. I'm a pilot i can't beat anyone's ass! Even though im a 100 years old and have a massive gut . Why in god's name if you're that pilot do you even acknowledge the drunken clown other than to point him out to security. Lose lose situation getting mixed up in that ********************e.

The pilot, regardless of what airline he flew for should have shown a lot more professionalism and discretion when being confronted by this passenger by calmly walking away from the situation. The drunken passenger was a fool for making a bad situation worse.

Outsource provider.

Outsource provider.

To the pilot's defense, being sold out by your major airline pilots can lead to the stress of being a disrespected second class citizen. Can't get money you earn bc you're whipsawed against other regionals. Get scheduled in all kinds of sh/t ways. That sh/t builds up.

No excuses really. But that sh/t does wear on you and you might not act as well as you would at all times.

By the way- anybody else seeing this "safe, secure way to meet the only big breasted Chinese single ladies, banner ad?" Hahaha- trolling on FI:)---------->>>>>>>>>>----->>>>>--->>>
I'm sure that's very specific targeted advertising by the FI madmen! ;)
