DELTA Expands Los Angeles ? San Francisco Bay Area Operation from Sep 2013

by JL
Update at 0820GMT 10JUN13

DELTA in Fall 2013 continues to expand Los Angeles operation, which sees further expansion of Los Angeles ? San Francisco Bay Area operation. Planned increase starting 03SEP13 as follow.

Los Angeles ? San Francisco Overall service increases from 11 to 14 daily, including the return of hourly shuttle service at every hour on top of the hour*. In addition, all 14 daily flights will be operated by DELTA Connection carrier Compass Airlines? Embraer E175 aircraft.

So with SFO ground delays they will do 8 of them since lax gets nailed hard when the fog rolls in.

There's close to 50 flights a day in each direction on this route. You concluded that these flights are retaliation for WN buying AT and cutting flights back out of ATL? Um, ok.

It's called SWA narcissism. Someone puts up a post about DAL, a couple SWA folks put up posts that try and deflate the message or make it about them, the General will be on here to defend DAL and the SWA folks will come back with their better and will question why is everyone attacking SWA.

None of that, I just think about all the California haters out there.

Kinda wish that I lived there these days

The reports of California's death have apparently been greatly exaggerated.
Makes me laugh to know how many I fly with criticize and criticize California when California is so damn profitable- and so important to southwest.
Not that they're above criticism by any stretch- I don't run my business there- I've just never been on that particular negative bandwagon

And oh yeah- dalpa are sellouts, ;)
that's why "they're taking their shot at us" with another company's gun.

I think this is an opportunity to retain/grow business traveler customers in those two cities who have multiple choices with their travel. Flying in a CR7/9 is uncomfortable for many and the E175 is a definite step-up in passenger comfort. This in addition to excellent frequency (14 daily flights) to fit their busy/changing schedules. This service is tailor-made for business travelers along one of the most heavily traveled business routes in the country (like the DCA-LGA-BOS corridor).

I think Delta is doing a better job of providing a more competitive product. SWA has the frequency, but it does not offer premium seats or a loyalty program that can be redeemed for free trips to Hawaii with the kids. I see this as upgrading Delta's service in two critical business-traveler cities to grow market share.
