Coordinated strikes of different individual flights would have a large affect as well. If the company continues with their delaying tactics we WILL be released as long as we convince the NMB that in doing so we will not overly burden the transportation sector.

New meeting with the NMB on Sept. 5th. We shall see.

The NMB doesn't clear you to strike, they clear you for "self-help.". The union then decides what self-help tactic to use. Whether its a general strike or something less doesn't matter. I dont necessarily agree, but the poster's point is that it's unlikely UCAL will be cleared for self-help.

I understand what he is saying. He is wrong. From what I'm hearing from our reps the NMB is growing tired of the company's delaying tactics.

The 35% raise that was supposed to take place starting in 2000, it was over a number of years. Job action short of strike to get managements attention. Drop off in pax loads, followed by 9-11 the next year, followed by BK shortly thereafter, that is what I was blabbing about. All covered by ATW.

OK, but this is nothing like that. There is no job action, the damage to the company's reputation is being done to themselves by poor management (admitted by them). Also, there has been no significant load decrease despite the problems.

As far as a 9-11 type of event, there is always a chance of, but unlikely.

So, what is your point? Are you saying we shouldn't ask for any raises because the company needs our help and it might hurt the pilots in the long run?

Except for the fact that we are profitable now, and should be ridiculously profitable with competent management and an ISL. If Mgt wants the synergies of a merger, then they have to pay the piper. If they want to run us like UsAir to keep us under BK contracts indefinitely, they get the nightmare operation they've had since spring. Having 5 Europe flights a night out of an "outstation" (IAD) with no maintenance infrastructure, spare parts, planes or crews? Who thinks this crap up?

You said job action before a strike, this is a job action after being released for a legal strike. Big difference.

As far a being profitable, how does over a billion sound over the last year?

The white house cannot stop it. They can delay it, but cannot stop it. Only Congress can impose a contract to stop a strike which has never happened to to any airline, ever.

Believe it or not, the best thing that ever happen to me was not being hired at UAL when I interviewed in 1996. At the time I was deeply disappointed after the Stuke monster’s questioning of "Why did you get a "C" in Differential Equations in the Spring of 1963". But looking back at what happened at UAL post 1996, JUS has been a much better ride. I would have never make Captain before I turned 60 in 2003, I would have taken a pay cut and had a pension torn apart in the BK. Then find my self unemployed at age 60. No I never made it to the "Show", but it has been a fantastic ride and I don't if I would change much.
