Gotta love the 737 and it's manual reversion. It ain't fun but it works in a pinch. I'd hate to have the feeling that I was just along for the ride.
 
Actually its becasue we threw one hell of a pizza party for the tower. Man those guys can eat when they are at work.
 
Dual hydraulic failure in itself is doable been there done it, must have been other issues
 
Just engine thrust left after a dual hyd failure? Why did they stay in the air so long if it was that serious? The Alaska MD-80 crew/pax might be alive today had they landed asap.

Kind of wondering that myself...really that concerned about an overweight landing with 2 hyd systems on the fritz?

Maybe being overweight plus no brakes or flaps/spoilers is why they need to be as light as possible. But with a serious control issue I would think it would be best to get on the ground right away as long as the plane was stable.
 
The bus has 3 hyd systems, and you do have rudder, elevator, ailerons, flaps & slats on blue system. You do not have reverse, brakes or nose wheel steering on blue alone.

Reports indicated a loss of green followed by a yellow overheat, then a recovery of yellow. A single failure does not give a LAND ASAP ECAM message, a dual failure does.

A dual failure without reverse and brakes would be sporty to land at LAS on a high density altitude day. EDIT: You would have the accumulator pressure for some brakes, but not normal or alternate brakes, and no anti skid.

Good job to the crew! I've had a single hyd failure in the bus which was a non event. This could have turned out bad if they had rushed it.
