Had a friend of mine in CA attend a meeting and also there were officials from NASA ames, FAA, icao, airline representatives, and pilots. Topic was the upcoming, "PILOT SHORTAGE" and one of the issues was Canada's new rule. The proposal at this meeting was fly till you can no longer obtain a medical, "fly till you die", anyone else know any info on this meeting? Wouldn't doubt it, just passing along what I hear. This individual is pretty involved in aviation with his flight school.
 
ICAO will have to do it before we will.

Stick em in the right seat after 65 and I'm ok with it. You'll still also have to keep toe old farts from flying ETOPS together.

Not totally against it as long as there are restrictions.

Pilot shortage my ass. I'll believe that when I see it.
 
Put over-60 pilots in the right seat. How can a pilot that needs to be "baby-sat" be and effective PIC?
 
Payscales get extended.. Company retirement contributions go down.. Employment stagnation for all the young pilots who occupied wall street.. Government gets more taxes off of senior employees..

65. End of story.

Someone else posted it on a different thread. But the key to solving the pilot shortage is by getting rid of all the 50 seat RJs and replacing them with 70-86 seat jets. There will always be a small niche for the dashes, saabs and 1900s. Then it will be up to us "major" airline pilots to figure out how to get the larger jets on property where they should be.

I was on a crew bus the other day and heard two guys from another airline talking about going to 67, If I'd have been a FFDO he would've "Retired" right there...

Moron was saying he made more as a 737 captain in '84 then he was making now on a 767...You've had your turn, it's time to go!!! I'm sorry you spent it on ex wives, and lost what was left in Bankruptcy BUT if you've been a Captain that long and didn't save anything, Don't know what to tell you BUT BYE BYE!

At this rate I will never upgrade. I am guessing it was a Delta pilot. We have some doozies over here at Delta.
 
If this ever happens, there needs to be strict enforcement of First Class Medical standards as well as severe punishment for doctors who are lenient with these farts. And I'm all for putting them in the right seat after 65. Then they can start hearing about MY boat.
 
If the age was raised to, say 67 or 70, how long would one's disability insurance run if you medical'd out at 60 or so?
