I know Ty has repeatedly noted that his seniority at AAI affords him pretty good QOL and schedules with the days off he wants. I was curious just what Ty's schedule would look like (if he were bidding. That's not a shot at you Ty. People go out on med all the time.)

I asked a friend if I could see the AAI awards and lines. She let me log in to their Flica site which they use to bid. I looked at the two pilots directly above Ty's seniority (10th year)on the 737 ATL and one directly below. I then compared that to my own schedule for July. I am a fifth year FO in BWI at about 75%.

The three AAI lines were basically identical. Four-day trips, Sat-Tues. Each line had a full week off and 17 days off. All three lines worked the 4th of July weekend and holiday.

My July line works 3-days, Sun-Tues. My line has 18 days off. My line also has a week off, from July 3-9.

Now for the pay. All the AAI lines credit about 82, which at $155/hr is 12,700. My line credits 105 TFP, which at 115 is 12,100.

I'm not trying to incite any riots here. I just had a 19hr layover and was getting bored so I thought I would demonstrate how our schedules and QOL compare.

STOP with the facts!!!

Ok so I spend a good amount of time convincing guys to lower their expectations. SWA will give you more pay and more days off so don't let pride get in the way. Now you tell me that a ten year AAI guy makes more than a ten year SWA guy.

Thanks for the post but it was easier to sell the lie.

You're in the neighborhood, but those are before two schedule adjustment periods, and open time trading. Also, Ty's 4 day trips are almost always commutable on both ends. I average one to two ATL overnights per month, and if you work it, you usually pick up one mote night off and addituonal credit.
.
I haven't worked Christmas, Thanksgiving or the Fourth for as long as I can remember.

You tell Ty that 4 days sux!

It depends. I look for stuff that duties in late with one leg , preferably out to the west coast. Or finishes with one or two legs. Three of those a month. Not too bad. Some nice layovers.

those Red Eyes full? You think they are here to stay? Do you get more $$ to fly them? Something, SWAPA will have to visit in the future.

Unfortunately they are full. No, you don't get more money to fly them. I think the real question is how much profit they generate. It's always been my suspicion that they are just a convenient way to get an airplane back to the hub.

They completely blow and are a really good way to screw yourself up for a couple of days. There is a good reason why open time is full of them.

That depends...

That last two 4-days I worked credited 26+ and 27+ hours. Three of those a month and I'm happy (there aren't that many, but lots are 24+). So four 3-days at 20 a piece or three 4-days at over 26. Same days off but less commutes or trips to the airport. At least you get options. Only real downside is the amount of energy a 4-day will zap out of you. I don't think I moved off the couch on day 5, but at least I was home.

Now I don't know how it would translate over to trips, but your rigs may push them to over 30 trips a piece. Not bad at all. I'm a 75-80 hour sweet spot guy. Anything over that is cutting into my fun time.

I think QOL, in this day and age, all comes down to how smart you are with your company's trip trading/bidding technology and how well you can game the system. My $.02 anyway.

Who cares!!! Why do you guys keep stirring the pot? We will all be on the same page soon enough! Why are pilots so tribal? Enough of the my pee pee is bigger than yours, as they will all be the same size soon! Let's just stop the BS, work together and make it a great place for all!!! Be happy for once life's too short to be negative all the time!!!!

So the SLI hinges on Ty's commutes? LOL

Take the staple trannies. Don't let senior guys like Ty screw this up for you.

...by the way, word from a little birdie says it will be a staple or likely nothing at all (possibly some pref. interviews.) FWIW

I have a month of CDO's (continuos duty overnights) this month (June) I was able to get a line next month and was told that many of the CDO lines for next month have gone away. Rumor is more and more CDO's will be going away. I hope the rumor is true. They SUCK!!!!!

Probably the biggest downside to our schedules is that there are relatively few commutable trips. Our whole AM/PM trip arrangement, while easier on the body, usually means a commuter will be overnighting either on the front or back end of most trips. Although the additional seven domiciles may reduce the need to commute for many ATN dudes (after the fence comes down, of course :D)

I just did a 3 day that paid 28.1 trips (credits) straight time.... really.

As far as pay goes I will never be able to touch your pay. As far as schedule goes I am a 05 hire 717 Fo I get avg 17 days of the las three months I have had one whole week off during the month. Most times I have four day trips with a three day here and there. If I want I am able to get all weekends off and all holidays off. I am a commuter so I give up high time trips for commutable trips. Most months I work tues-fri. My trips start after 11:30 and end by 20:30. The only times I have to get a hotel in atl is if I have training.
I avg 80 hr a month.
If you don't like what you get for the month it is pretty easy to move things around with sap 1 and 2 and open time.
The one thing we have going for us is the commutable lines. Hands down your lines will alway pay more than ours. You also do better because you have more west coast flying than we do. When our 737 pilots get to the west coast they are done they can't get back to MKE, bwi or atl without timing out. You guys could fly bwi-lax and continue to any place out west getting you 7+hrs for the day. This is the main reason we look over staffed to you guys.
I know that when things are all said and done I am going to make lots more money at swa than at aai. This will help, but I have never bid my lines around $$$ my number 1 priority has always been time off. The extra money will never make up for the lost time spent with my family.

I hate my Dad he is always gone. He thinks this BMW makes up for it... But it doesn't. Sure I don't have college loans but have you heard they are going to raise the inheritance tax... When it's all said and done I'll only get a couple hundred K when my Dad dies!

I hear ya Green... Mo money mo problems
