ASA unstacking next month?

Zero basis for hoping that...we aren't even adequately staffed for a September drawdown, much less summertime increase and covering Comair/Pinnacle flights. Enjoy the extra hours.

Learn the system. Only the bottom 30% in a regular month, or 50% in a "holiday" month can be unstacked.

Last I checked, the bottom 30% had to work on weekends in a line bidding environment.

Ya I get the feeling that the "unstack" option will be used every month from here on out as a way for the company to create schedules without having to hire more to cover the flying. I still think the company thought PBS would allow them to staff with current numbers, but the reality has been anything but.

I can't wait to see how the 3rd week of June turns out in DTW. Bout 20 3-4 days in open time that will have to be covered. I know they are already TDY'ing guys up from ATL, guess DTW is gonna go just like IAD has for the last 2 years. Awesome.

I think what the company WANTS is complete control over 30-50% of their work force. Basically one gigantic pool of reserves.

Very flexible. They are just incompetent in managing resources. If 100% of us were on reserve they couldn't manage it.

Simple math tells me that we do indeed need to sell XJT on PBS if we decide we want to keep it.

Simple math tells me that if the unstacking language remains, as well as a whole slew of other language in the ASA PBS LOA, it can be "sold" all day long. Probably won't be bought though.

You're right. If the schedules had been bad maxcackal, CRJ567, coopervane etc etc would have all be here at full force with their 'xjet are you watching?' rhetoric. All is quiet on their end now.

Just FYI if you look at most of the posts that involve these few who bash the PBS system so much, there are about 10 others in those same posts who like the system. These two are just more vocal on this board than others.

There is a lot to like about PBS thus far. I've had superior schedules (senior in category) every month since PBS began and have been able to arrange some irregular schedules that line bidding would never allow without significant trip trading after the final awards. However, it is clear that there are shortcomings in some of the associated work rules. Despite my improved schedules I won't be inclined to vote in favor of a TA with PBS without significant contract language improvement. Having read the XJT work rules I fully expect the bar for a PBS "yes" vote to be even higher for you guys. I think it is possible to craft work rules that will preserve the best of both systems, but if the TA language isn't acceptable (and free of loop holes) I'll be joining the XJT "no" votes.

Clearly you didn't pay enough attention when LOA 11 was up for a vote. I don't know how you voted, but there are quite a few pilots who voted "yes" without reading the fine print. Personally, I was okay with the unstacking language for the most part. Someone has to work the holidays. However, I'm surprised at how many pilots are expressing outrage as if the unstacking language hasn't been there all along.

While I'm okay with unstacking for its intended purpose, I have a much bigger problem with the company trying to use unstacking in a non-holiday month to deal with poor staffing decisions (as they wanted to do in June). I also have a big problem with the reserve percentage continuing to creep upward with the union's blessing.
