Hi all. I've got a quick question. I'm working on my degree from ERAU and doing it all online due to the fact that I'm flying overseas. Once the likes of DL, UA, AA, ect start to hire will they look down on the fact that I'm not at a university campus or do they just want to see the 4 year diploma?

The short answer is, most majors only require or prefer a degree from a regionally accredited university. ERAU and it's global degree program count. It's possible that you'll have to answer questions about why you got a degree online or later in life during the interview. For now, concentrate on getting the best gpa possible. It's rarely asked about, not completely off limits. UA and DL have been known to ask questions about people's gpa and transcripts.

Dude, turn it into a positive in the interview. "I was flying overseas but knew I eventually wanted to work for XXXX. I chose to get my degree online while building time towards my goals." Aviator and scholar at the same time! I know SWA could care less where your degree is from. Some pilots don't have a degree but I imagine almost everyone they are hiring now does.

On your resume you will say that you have a BS or BA from EARAU. why even get into the distinction of online vs. live.

Bing!

The larger question is why in the HELL are you getting a degree from ERAU when you could get a degree from anywhere else and it would be cheaper and more useful?

Transfer now!

with the coming 2012 pilot hiring it will not matter where it is from and shortly thereafter it won't even matter if you have the degree, because we all know it has nothing to do with the ability to fly an airplane

Pilotyip and his "pilot shortage" and "college doesn't matter" in 3...2... oops, not quick enough.

Nah, the online diploma program at ERAU is actually quite affordable. I looked into doing my master's online and ERAU's was one of the most affordable I could find, even cheaper than the lousy University of Phoenix online. If you attend their brick and mortar campuses then it's very expensive.
