New Hire Questions

When was the last time there were new hires on the east and west? Was that in 2007? Since its been a while, I'm just curious what a new hire on the east would be looking at the first year.

3K per month flat rate?
Are you paid during initial?
Does company provide a hotel during training?
When can you get on the health insurance?
I'm assuming 190 to PHL...but any chance of something in DCA?

What is the risk/reward for going to LCC as opposed to being on the bottom of UCAL with no chance of being recalled in the next couple years? I would be living in base at DCA or 2 hour drive to Philly.

-Jan of this year. They were people that previously interviewed but did not get a class before the furloughs.

-3K per month for all equipment except the 190 which is $41 per hour for the first year.

Are you paid during initial?

-Yes, training is paid at 85 hours per month plus per diem.

Does company provide a hotel during training?

-Yes.

When can you get on the health insurance?

-Immediately.

-There are no guarantees, but I would guess sooner than later. Plan on 190 PHL initially and as movement happens DCA will be possible quickly. Besides the 190 the most junior F/O is DCA 737.

-Everyone considers different things important so it's hard to say. For me I can drive to CLT and sit at home on reserve. Obviously don't come here to get rich.

Best of luck to you.

I predict every Piedmont Dash FO will apply. It can't be any worse than going nowhere in an all prop company that never gets any new equipment, with senior Dash Captains that won't leave. I'd say USAir, even USAir East, would be an improvement. But, you will be flying with wheenies at USAir East........(binding arbitration, look into it)

There's only one reason to go to us airways. The possibility of them merging with someone and you ending up at an actual major.

Everyone has to start somewhere. Not all of us are able to get hired and retire at our first choice. And so often what looked good when you started turns to crap 10-15 years down the road. You never know if you made the right call til you retire...

Accepting apps and hiring...2 different things. Sitting with seniority somewhere but want to make the move..I'd apply but keep an eye on fuel prices..High fuel in the fall after the summer rush...beware..

If I were with a regional I would go there in a heart beat. If the East stays seperate you will upgrade in 6 years based on retirements. That's got to be better than most regional jobs.

While the current state of USAir is pretty unflattering, a look at the big picture would indicate the present is a good time to "catch the wave".

After the integration is finalized, those "third list" pilots will be like Switzerland. It's nice to be able to say, "I started here after the merger so I don't have a dog in the fight and I get along with everybody". Anyone who seeks a job at USAir hoping the turbulent separate operations will allow them to pole vault into the left seat is a complete moron. Of course, there will be a few and they'll scream like infants when their unrealistic career expectations aren't realized.

The bid award was just released... 52 open positions un-filled... Of those, only 23 were on the 190 in PHL. The rest were all group 2... With the majority being the Airbus in PHL and CLT... So it looks like most will get a group 2 award...

This is true.

However either way new hires "win". If the list is integrated it will certainly come with a better contract. If the list is not integrated then upgrade is quick.

A new hire shouldn't really care whether they get the 190 or Group 2. In fact the 190 pays a bit more first year, and after a year you can bid out. It only matters if you want to bid a base other than PHL.

IF they stop shrinking.

Who says they are shrinking? They are already at the min fleet size allowed already + there is a block hour requirement. I dont see shrinking as a major concern. Most of the shrinking is going to come from the regional feeders as contracts expire.

And finally, when you turn a 20 mile final for the CLT ILS 23 you report to Charlotte approach that you are over the Charlotte Cultural and Fine Arts Center.....(the Charlotte Speedway.)

Ya'll comon down.

Yeah, unfortunately alot of them are F/O's. Get ready to sit until furlough time. Don't expect much from USAPA.

My old freind at United doesn't expect much from ALPA but he is so proud that the ALPA national officers have a great pension paid by the dues he pays them.

Only the president gets a pension, and it doesn't pay much unless you get re-elected a couple of times.

You Yankees just tickle me. Thinking that because we don't talk as fast or feel the need to put on airs that we're not as bright.

Lemme larn ye sumpthin (that's the way you northern folk expect us to talk so I'll use it so y'all can understand), so lemme larn ye sumpthin:

It's you who talks funny.

And ciabatta is for pansies.

There's a reason we live here: it's because you don't. We like that.

And as y'all walk away nudging your yankee buddies in the ribs laughing and puttin on airs with your godawful accents, making fun of us poor ignorant southern folk, you fail to notice that you are leaving without your woman.

She can stay.
