I just thought of something that might help you understand the tran. There is a loud speaker in the crew room so someone doesn't have to leave her cubical to scream at flight attendants. No joke, it the crappy kind of speaker you might see on a pole at a parade. It is set at parade volume too.

Hows your paper coming?

Are you saying that at AirTran the pilots have to share a crew room with the F/A's?
 
Any idea offered by Employees to improve the operation is immediately dismissed out of hand (even if it saves money) because Management didn't think of it first.

Management flat out refuses to acknowledge illogical operational procedures and refuses to fix them because that would call attention to their incompetence. It's a frustrating circle that never ends.

Based on my experience working on the ground for AirTran a few years back, I think this is a very accurate summary.

Back in 2004, AirTran tried to beef up DFW...going from about 8-10 departures a day to around 25 departures a day almost overnight. They attempted to do this with no additional equipment or staffing and even failed to let the TSA know about their intention to increase their flight schedule, resulting in insanely long security lines. There were rampers puking on the ramp from exhaustion almost every morning.

When DFW station dropped to almost dead-last in just about every possible performance metric, the company finally allowed station management to hire more employees. They gave them three...and, all three quit within weeks. That was just about par for the course.
 
Honestly there are TWO AirTrans........One if you are on reserve and the other if you have a schedule. The latter is a nice life usually 16 to 18 days off on average, depending on your seniority. The former is similar to that scene in "Pulp Fiction" where you have a leather strap containing a ball tied around your head and you feel this burning sensation around your anus as you hear loud grunts and smack sounds.

And the F.A.'s ask, "What's not to like?"

....and I believe its called a "ball gag".
 
The more I read, the more I can see SWA acquiring employees that are damaged goods. If you go out and earn the job you really want, you are more likely to turn the page. Being handed the job without effort, the page may not be turned because of an abused, closed mind. Kind of like the difference of getting a dog as a new puppy vs getting it after its been abused.

It's great! 30 or so sets of bags just plopped willy nilly all over the crew room (there used to be a movable bag rack that was ALWAYS empty) and always one or two gals splayed out on one of the limited couches to take a nap (first choice is always the one directly in front of the tv...ALWAYS).

I think the term was "tran-tastic"!
 
It's like the 70's TV show "Taxi". A big area with dozens of pilots and FA's on 3 hour sits, and Louie sitting in the cage screeching"FA Jones, please report to the tracking window" "First Officer Smith, please complete your check in". Haven't seen it in a while, but reserve FA's sitting ready used to have to put bulletins and such their coworkers Vfiles when they didn't have a work assignment.

And to top it all off, we ride the elevator with the trash dumpster emptying the contents of the C concourse in to the dumpster outside.
 
Don't forget the man with the nice shoes feverishly inserting nasty-grams into the v-files of the "non team players".
There used to be a sign under that speaker warning not to stand too close as hearing damage may occur. I thought that was classic.

These two posts are a perfect example of why some think the moderating here is one-sided. Ty Webb can basically get away with making personal attacks against people with no repercussions, just because he doesn't like what some guy posts??? Heck, I don't agree with what Sy-Bill posted either, but I don't think that it gives me the right to call him names and denigrate his manhood. Pretty sure thats against the ToS. Just sayin'.

Again Ty, I do not work for SWA.

I obviously touched a personal nerve. You have been absent for a while now probably because your union has asked you and your other co-workers to refrain from posting. I am sure you are reading this board and have some built up pressure and so you let it out on someone that you have held a grudge on for years now.

I would not be surprised if the SWA pilots see you as the poster child of the possibilities that are in their future. It is exactly these type of over reactions that are very concerning to the SWA pilots. Their culture is different from AT's and the lifeblood of their success. I can only hope for them that their management is aware of these types of potentials.

As for the moderating, it does appear to be one sided. But I really don't care how one reacts cowardly towards another on any anonymous forum as this one. I say what I would if I was face to face with anyone here. Others like Ty, they are cowards both on and off this board. An anonymous forum reveals ones true character.

I am so sorry to hear of your challenges with this disease. Little wonder you are a little wound up.

I will be more patient with your posts Mr. Ty. Please update us on your progress with this disease.

In an attempt to make you feel better, I will fully support your belief that relative seniority is not arrogant, greedy or unfair.

All I got out of that is how much Ty hates SWA.


I don't hate SWA, where the hell did you get that from? What I said (6 years ago, btw) was:

A) SWA was not going to be the savior of ATA (which, unfortunately, turned out to be true) and

B) That SWA wasn't "'lil ol' SWA" anymore now, and in their new position as "the 800 pound gorilla" a little humility might go a long way (also true). Kinda like the puppy who grows into a Great Dane and thinks he's still a little puppy.

If you perceive those comments to be "hate" then you have a very thin skin, my friend. :rolleyes:
