The article is wrong. Deliveries start in 2012 on the Global 5000 and XRS. 2017 for the Global 7000 and 8000.

Berkshire's NetJets Agrees to Buy 120 Bombardier Planes Worth $6.7 Billion

NetJets Inc., the business-jet operator owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc., said it ordered as many as 120 aircraft from Bombardier Inc. in a record deal for private planes.

The agreement, worth more than $6.7 billion at list prices, comprises 50 firm orders and 70 options, according to a statement carried today by Business Wire. It didn’t say how much NetJets would pay for the aircraft, which will arrive from the fourth quarter of 2012.

NetJets, based in Columbus, Ohio, placed the order in anticipation of a rebound in demand for corporate travel, it said. David Sokol, named to run the jet operator by Buffett in 2009, has returned the unit to profit after firing pilots and writing down the value of planes.

“Although we anticipate 2011 to be another difficult year, when Bombardier begins to make deliveries of these aircraft, we will be ready to satisfy the market’s demand,” Sokol said in the statement. “We are taking advantage of the current lull in the private aviation market to position the NetJets fleet for the future.”

The firm orders include 30 of Montreal-based Bombardier’s Global 5000 Vision and Global Express XRS Vision aircraft, which will be delivered starting next year. The deal also includes 20 firm orders for Bombardier’s new Global 7000 and Global 8000 jets, which will be handed over starting in 2017.

There's a reason why Netjets is buying them. The price was right.

And there's a reason why the price was right. They're cheap. In every sense of the word.

The G-V/550 isn't going anywhere. It will be very busy performing worldwide rescue missions...
 
My god, does Gulfstream have a super advanced system in the cockpit seats, that shoots arrogance directly into the anus of the pilots? :blush:
 
Ask my best friend. He flies a Gulfstream and a Global for his employer. He'll take the Gulfstream every day and twice on Sunday.

Exxon just traded in four Globals for 550's and 650's. They're tired of getting stuck in Angola with parts on the way...

Gulfstream always has, and always will be the worlds premier corporate aircraft manufacturer.

Well the Globals may be stuck in Angola waiting on parts, the Gulfstreams are stuck in KLAS, waiting on parts.
 
This just opens the door for Flexjet to get Gulfstreams. Beat Netjets at their own game! You heard it here first!

Actually, I was thinking if that was part of the deal.

I wonder if Sokol called Bombardier and said " Fine, I'll buy your Globals on one condition, that you keep flexjet away from the long-haul market."

Santulli cancelled a bunch of Cessna orders and switched to Raytheon products when cessna started Citation Shares, didn't he?

That is a big slap in the face from you guys to Gulfstream. I agree that Gulfstream makes a way better product, but I can't see how Gulfstream would not give a counter offer for the G650 over the Global 7000 and 8000? They may be cheaper, but the operating costs will be higher. You guys have the largest "G" fleet in the world, and to add the G650 would save costs in terms of training and maintenance since you are already set up for it, now to add a whole new fleet to your mix will cost big time. I don't see the logic....
