I used to work at Republic and was lucky enough to get out of that hell-hole. A friend of mine is looking to get on with a regional. I wouldnt recommend it to him, but I was wondering if it has gotten any better over there?

morale here is rock bottom, but its a crap shoot with any regional, todays top regional can be hell tomorow. when i started here in 2006 most of the guys/gals I flew with were pretty happy, now id say 75%+ are not.

Things have been in a steady downward slide since early 2008...things dropped of a cliff with this F9 and YX nonsense. I'd tell your buddy to look elsewhere.

I left the Chautauqua side a few years ago. Back then it was good times but movement was insanely quick. From friends still there I hear morale is really bad for all RAH carriers right now. But that is true for any regional that has been stagnant and they all are at the moment. At least with RAH you have something different from the rest. Many bases. Of course you have no idea which one you will get. Many different types some of which are useful. I.e. the 170 type is flown by not just regionals. A chance for a different business model. At least they are trying something different. BB saw the light long time ago. As much as I hate the guy he has proven to be a smart leader. If anyone has a chance to fight he may. Regionals will have a hard time hanging on to contracts with oil prices and scope. They will be fighting for their very survival in the next years.

Morale alone would not deter me from going there. At the end they are all the same. You wake up, fly the jet 5+ legs, get your reduced rest and repeat.

But this is just what I think. Good luck to your bud!

Do some research, find the fastest upgrade and take it. Get out asap to a real airline.

I heard attrition is so bad at Republic its causing major flight cancellations. I cant believe they wouldnt treat crews decent enough so they arent forced to quit.

Yes, Completely!!!
Republic's management treats you like a beat dog!!!! Its completely understaffed and that is the way they like it! Reserves are flying thier asses off!!! No Pay! I think about 80% of the FOs are maxed out on the payscale of $36.62/hour with no end in sight!!! Every single person I fly with says they can't wait to get on elsewhere, Captains and FOs!! The Place will make you hate flying!!! Always violating the contract! They say "Fly it and grieve it"! Scheduling calls just about everyday to try to get you to pick up overtime!!! Bottom Line, Go elsewhere because people are fleaing from this place like a burning building!!!! That is the truth, Brother!!!!!:smash:

Makes Mesa sound good.

I have talked to some former Mesa guys and the said their schedules were actually better at Mesa.
Interesting since we have the SAME guy in charge of building trips that they had at Mesa. I don't know if he quit or if RAH was able to hire him away.

At least we don't have Junior Manning.

It's bad but not as bad as some people make it out to be. I've flown charter and corporate and I'll take this over that crappiness any day of the week. Besides, alot of people don't know their contract and get taken advantage of. I say make due with what you have and always try and improve it, just takes some patience.

What in the world does charter and corporate have to do with the airlines? Apples and Oranges, Brother!!!!

I agree. I work corporate/charter now, and will never go back to the regionals. (spent 3 yrs at one, a great one at that.) The one's today suck.

I believe he was comparing lifestyles. I worked 135 on-demand charter and was on a pager 24/7. I got a call one night and was gone for 10 days straight. Going from that schedule to a regional airline was great. I had hard days off, what a concept! Even with jr. manning life was 100% better.

Above poster is correct. I was referring to the types of lifestyles that each one possesses. The most impact any flying job has on us as pilots is the qol/lifestyle. I'm not trying to put down corporate flying, it just isn't my cup of tea. I know a lot of people like it and that's great! I was just expressing my opinion that even with the "warts" that RAH has, I would rather be doing the regional than corporate.

I respectfully disagree. I am flying corporate/charter now and would rather cut off my own left nut than go to work for Republic.

Come on, are you serious? You are exactly the kind of guy that management wants working here! That's why we will never get a respectable contract around here! I'm just afraid that there are way too many guys with this kind of mentality to actually make a change around here. :uzi:

Are you kidding? What is so "no bad" about it? Crap hotels, low pay, management treats you like dirt, contract sucks, and I could go on and on. My favorite part was working 14 hours a day, flip-flopping my body clock day to day, oh and reserve was a blast too. Even a line sucks over there.

If a pilot needs the flying experience to get to the major airlines, and they don't get that experience in the military, how do they get it? Even though there are no good regionals to fly for, is there one or two that are OK to fly for?

I am serious, and I think you, like many F/O's at RAH, are overreacting. Maybe because the upgrade isn't 1-2 years like it used to be I don't know. I swear most of the F/O's around here are about to jump off a cliff or slit their wrists. This is not to say I'm a management lackey, but seriously, people need a reality check. Relax, and when the vote come for a new contract then you can voice your opinion with a vote. You are just spinning your wheels and wasting your own energy at this time.

I will agree that management treats you like dirt, but what did you expect? Did you really think that they'd roll out the red carpet and invite you for an afternoon on the back nine? As for the 14 hours a day, I've worked 19 hours flying a Falcon 900 corporate part 91. Yeah, part 91, no rules have fun with that!

...Did you really think that they'd roll out the red carpet and invite you for an afternoon on the back nine...?

Actually, I think a lot of them did expect that and are now throwing fits. After all, throwing fits always worked in the past.

There is a lot that needs fixing. Unfortunately there are a lot who are upset that nobody has fixed it for them.

+1

It's still unbelieveable that they went there to chase an upgrade!!! Anyone hear of Murphy's Law? That mighty B1900 time is they key right to the left seat of an E-Jet!! lol dumba$$es
