Does anyone else think flying is boring?

Ok, I need to know, who else thinks that being an airline pilot is one of the most boring jobs available.

Sitting in a cockpit, basically a prisoner the entire block time of the flight, sitting bored for hours, then off to a hotel to sit for hours.... "then do it all again" - Nickelback 2010.

Who else thinks that it is brainless work?

It's not supposed to be exciting. Passengers don't want an "exciting" ride.

Grow up.

Only other dorks that listen to Nickelback "thing" flying is boring.

Go back and edit your thread title.

In the summer of 2009 at CAL recurrent ground they played Nickelback's song "If today was your last day" at the end of the day while they showed pictures of recently retired pilots (kinda gayish). Anyways, I thought it was ironic to play that at an airline training event since it says in the song "against the grain should be the way of life"...

The craziest part is that I told the guy next to me (who looked like he was in his early 30s) that I can't believe they were playing Nickelback. his reply was "who is Nickelback".

Are you kidding me, what 30 something year old doesn't know who Nickelback is.... unless you are living under a rock

Beats the hell out of working for a living.

It's not supposed to be "exciting" and let me tell you after being furloughed for a while, sitting behind a desk for 8 hours a day doesn't exactly get the adrenaline flowing either.

Yes, it's boring most of the time going A to B running the same checklists over and over again but it pays well and allows me to afford my own airplane so I can do the type of flying I really enjoy and find "exciting" on my time.

It is designed to be boring. If it wasn't, thrill seekers would be pilots. Passengers and shippers want the same: a safe arrival.

The "trick" to being a professional pilots is managing your resources, time and energy effectively so that at any given minute on a trip, you are 100%. Easier said than done.

If you did not educate yourself on the profession before you invested into it, then perhaps you have failed yourself. I'll take boring.

Wow, I guess I won't see you complaining about pay then.

Amazing the responses I get on FI about this issue considering that most of you complain about the job and pay most of the time. So I throw a comment about boredom out there and BOOYAH, pay is great and time off is awesome, beats a desk job.... blah blah........very interesting.

OK, I will be back in a bit, I need to offer 10 people a titanium solution....

Failed spin... you did not discuss pay or time off. Rather, simply your inability to keep yourself occupied while engaged in a profession. That is your problem and seeking others to validate your inability won't change your perception of bordom.

It appears you suffer from instant gratification and over stimulus.... many people find it difficult to simply sit still with no sound or sight stimulus...

There are ways to fly stuff that are definitely not boring at all, although it involves signing your life on the on the bottom line...

After doing that a while you come to appreciate boring, even while you miss real flying.
