Valuable topic. Ironically one I never thought of until I left my airline career. Now in my current business I'm a 24hr target. 3 business break-ins in the last 2 years. Nothing stolen due to alarms. Just damage. At the home front alarms, cameras, firearms and some type of weapon in every room. Greet anyone I don't know at the door with my personal protection choice an XD-45 in my hand. (2 in the last month) Watch tv with it on the coffee table. When I arrive home from work (sometimes at night) I'm armed in hand and ready to shoot as I pull in my driveway. Also have Rem 870 with heavy shot personal defense shells. In the last year had someone in my boat and in the backyard.
My dog of choice, pit-bull. "Nothing stares you down and inflicts terror on a would be assailant like a Doberman', my pit bull does. He warned me of both people and was jumping so high to get in the backyard he was nearly touching the ceiling. The guy in the boat ran and the one in the backyard was watching me lift the locks on the sliding glass door. He ran then said, "oh ********************" when he heard the sound of my dog running across the yard. An 80lb all muscle pit bull sounds like a horse galloping when they sprint. This guy escaped through the acre wooded lot next to me. So I now have barbed wire strung between the trees and three strands across the top of the fence. The rest of my fence is 8ft high.
For your family when your not home.
1 Dog
2 Alarm
3 Firearm for your wife (mine carries concealed an airweight hammerless S&W .38+p)
Constant vigilence of your or her surroundings is #1.

Jesus H...Where do some of you people live? Dobermans, Pit Bulls, Rotwilers? Ever overheard the neighbors say, "Well, it used to be a nice neighborhood?"
If I was the robbin' type, you better believe i'm walking in carrying a 8 shot sawed off pump 12 and a 13 +1 Sig .228 with hollow points. If I hear as much as a woof, steel will be coming down rainge.
Have a nice day, ladies. :)

Word. Don't shoot your kid.

Word - (In the words of Ted Nugent): Kiss my ass.

Remember, every law on the books restricting guns us bc someone wasn't responsible

Not true - many are on the books because politicians with an agenda to peddle wanted to pass a law to make it look like they were doing something. Many of these laws are redundant.

Keep a loaded 40 S&W on each floor. Keep it in a location where you can get to it quickly but your kids can't find it. I think it is the quickest, cheapest, and surest way to ensure your family's safety.

Word - (In the words of Ted Nugent): Kiss my ass.

Ah, the words of the Motor City Madman.

Ever read Ted's book, "Kill it and grill it?"
In this cookbook, Ted Nugent shares his favorite recipes for such exotic fare as wild boar, pheasant, buffalo, and venison. Kill It and Grill It is filled with hunting anecdotes, detailed instructions on cleaning and dressing your game, helpful hints for those new to hunting and cooking wild game, nutritional information and, of course, recipes.

Probably not a best seller in San Francisco. Home of the 9th circus.

Ever seen the movie "FROM DUSK TILL DAWN"....that guy that has the gun that flips out on his crotch..... well... if you have on of those you are golden, because the guy that breaks into your house and kills your Rot, pit, and doberman, disables the alarm and picks the lock to your metal door will not be expecting to be SHOT by you penis.... So man up and go get a real gun!!

Great- are we gonna now say Obamas the next hitler and start stocking up fir the revolution?

Next.

Where did that come from? Deflection, do they teach all Libs that somewhere?

I'm a pro gun guy- maybe you missed that- I just find the revolution rhetoric funny- but absolutely support your right to arm the hell out of your home- even while supporting all voluntary and required safety and proficiency programs.

Armed home invasion is thankfully relatively rare. The vast majority of burglars are looking to break into your home when you aren't there. Then they will steal all your guns.

Dog, burglar alarm, and try to enjoy life and not live in such fear all the time. Guns that are accessible, loaded, and usable in an emergency are also dangerous to have around. Each year approximately 200 children in the USA suffer unintentional firearm-related deaths.
