Fellow employees:

I wanted to let you know that the management of Mesaba, Colgan and Pinnacle, along with the leadership at ALPA, have reached a consensus to negotiate for a single contract that will include the pilots at each of the three airlines. We plan to meet with ALPA the week of August 23 to determine the ground rules for conducting negotiations with the hope that we can then immediately start expedited negotiations. The negotiations would also address any issues arising from the purchase of Mesaba by Pinnacle Corp. The date to start negotiations will be determined after we finish the ground rules for conducting them. My thanks to the Master Executive Council and everyone at Mesaba for the hard work we have already done. This is positive news and a big step toward producing an agreement that’s fair for the pilots and our airline.

Sincerely,

John Spanjers
President
Mesaba Airlines

For the first time in 5+ years we have one word.... Leverage.

Not really.

Mesaba/Pinnacle/Colgan will still be competing with several other MECs and non union carriers for the same flying.

You can thank ALPA for that.

You can thank the Comair MEC for that when they got their "big" contract after the $1 billion strike back in 2001. They went for the money, and forgot about scope. Ooooops. And they pizzed off everyone else. That is the story about "Condom Air, Delta Protection."

Bye Bye---General Lee

What's that saying about people who live in glass houses?

C'mon, Genital Lee. You have to admit that much of the blame lies with Delta mainline and the relaxation of their scope. It's just too bad mainline pilots will never learn this lesson. You can always bet they will remain short-sighted and take the money when it comes to scope. Can't wait to see the 100 seaters start popping up at the DCI carriers.

Wow, has this thread gotten off track.

Butters, thank you for posting the good news. I think we all can agree that having one contract for all three carriers together is a good thing.

I am hoping we do not shoot for the moon and instead get something better than what we (XJ) already have but not so good as to put us at a disadvantage with being competetive when Pinnacle trys for more contracts. Thats the reality of the situation. SLI will be a pain for most a godsend for some, thats just life too. How is it said? As long as everone does not like it, it is fair?

Lets try to keep this positive people. Lets look at the positives that is already coming from this. Furloughs being recalled at Mesaba, FO's at MEsaba who would have been furloughed are not being furloughed, Captains who were looking at a down drage at Mesaba will now stay captains, when Colgan gets teh XJ rates for the Q400's they will all see a very substantial pay rate and better work rules-and and I left out the benefit for the 9E pilots, they get leverage for a better contract and they get about a thousand people joining them complaining that their management has them under staffed and poorly ran! lol

This guy makes fun of the DC-9, thinks the crj900 is so great, and posts the above. I know he is a vast minority but geez these guys just don't get it.

Oh we get it. We just see the reality while you live in fantasy land. Pilots at the majors keep going for those short term contract gains while giving up their livelihoods in scope. Why would I want to go to a major when I know the senior guys that run ALPA will just sell my job back to the regionals to line their own pockets?

Nobody said there are no problems in the past on scope or the direction ALPA has taken in the past. I think that tide is slowly turning. You happy flying where you are? great! have a great time, but you bash the major guys and blame alpa as an excuse why you shouldn't apply to go to a major? Thats where the BS warning horn goes off.
Moving up to a major is a calculated risk, and with all risks come rewards and/or potential loss. Make fun of the 9, laugh at the majors and hope crj 1000's come your way...... you never have to take that leap cause its always someone elses fault.
