XJT & ASA Contract Information

Then they can spend millions more on other contract improvements to keep it in place, you will have another vote if it even gets put into the JCBA.

If I could draw everyones attention to ASA's contract, SEC 1.E.2 which states "The respective pilot collective bargaining agreements will be merged into one (1) agreement as the result of negotiations among the pilot groups and the successor or Company. If a fully merged agreement is not reached within four (4) months from the date a final and binding integrated pilot seniority list is issued, the parties will jointly submit outstanding issues to binding interest arbitration;"

The way I read this, if we fail to come to an agreement in 4 months, it goes to binding arbitration. Now, considering that PBS is now the industry standard, and that ASA already voted it in...and, that ASA's PBS leads the industry in concepts, it is reasonable to believe that an arbitrator would go with a PBS agreement. The only question I would have is would it be as good as what ASA currently has, or would it move in the direction of industry average? Either way, if it gets to that point because we are "chest pounding", we won't have a say...
 
Here is my concern. As an example:

For some reason, calling scheduling after a reserve assignment is a big deal to me. If nothing is on my schedule, it is NOT MY JOB to call them and REMIND them I am here. I told a rep I would like that changed in the next contract and our reps told me they were not even gonna ask for it because that is dictating when we are willing to work.

Now XJet already has this. How are we gonna make SURE we get all these little gems into our new contract? Our reps wont demand or even ask for it.

We need to make sure the XJet guys see our contract and realize that they are gonna lose some stuff if they/we don't demand it.

It seems to me the only improvement ASA has is duty rigs.

I think you're not being fair to the MEC to claim that the reps don't want improvements. They want the moon and the stars, they just weren't able to achieve everything in the last contract. Remember contract negotiations are a give-and-take, and we were coming from our 1998 contract which was a relic. To go from that to the contract that we have now was a huge improvement, but nobody sees it that way in 2010.

Now we are merging two modern contracts, both of which are industry-leading in areas. Also, we have a company which is very profitable and able to support our increased expectations and demands. I have very high hopes for our JCBA -- we're not going to just pick and choose which part of each contract is better, but we're going to end up with a JCBA which is industry leading and honestly close to a major contract in all areas except pay.

Believe me, we (XJT) will see your contract and review it line by line...nothing to worry about there.

Coopervane, you nearly hit it on the head with the above statements, i.e. the attitude of our reps is they aren't very concerned about reserves. Ever spoken to any pilots who were on the "Reserve Focus Group?" Noticed any changes since the focus group met? My understanding after speaking directly with members of the group is that company was ready to implement several improvements to our crap reserve system, but this was nixed by...you guessed it.

On speaking to our reps I'm told they won't do anything about reserve which might "infringe on the rights of the lineholders." My question for them is then: what about the rights of captains well into the top half of the seniority list who are forced to live like the most junior FO?
 
The only reason for the "Focus Groups" were to please the FAA, who were very interested in the high number of fatigue calls going on at the time.
Thats all....
 
hopefully we can somehow keep CCS for the combined company,, it works really really well for trip trading and pick-up. Its a bit older and less graphical; however, you simply make a trade with open time,, it is processed electronically and you are done. You can see it updated instantaneously on your master schedule and see how your monthly pay changed with your trade at the same time.
