Do the current DAL pilots think an applicant would be much less likely to get an interview without an internal recommendation? Or, is there still a chance?

From Dumb and Dumber the movie "Give it to me straight Mary. Is there a chance? How about 1 in 100? More like 1 in a Million Loyd. So what you're saying is there's a CHANCE...."

Sure, you have a chance without a rec. The first couple hundred spots will be hard to get, but after that I have heard DL may hire 600+ next year, and not everyone who has a friend on the inside gets hired. I would say if you are qualified, then you do have a chance. Good luck to you.

Bye Bye---General Lee

A former ACP at 9E got hired late in the cycle last time with no internals.

One heck of a resume...

I’m fairly sure that due to equal hiring rules, Delta like most airlines and large companies have moved to a computerized interview selection program. Each of your answers generates a points score and a letter of recommendation is just X amount of points, A candidate without a letter of recommendation may end up have a higher points score then someone with a letter, therefore the person without the letter will get the call for the interview.

During the actual interview is where the letter of recommendation comes into play.

Actually the LOR is what gets you the interview, they don't really even look at it during the interview.

When I interviewed in 2007 they had my LOR's printed out and sitting on the table with their paperwork. I guarantee you that at least one of the people on the panel interview has read your LOR's prior to you walking in.

I KNOW I can count on you for one, Gen! I mean, I do cook your fries just right... And I never seem to run low on that special sauce you love so much... Hell, I may just come right on as a Chief Pilot. I know my grease trap skills will come in handy there!

I don't really think YOU need a rec for lav dumper, but I guess I could write you one since everything you normally say is full of Sh%$ anyway! Go for it man! Be the best lav dumper you can be in Minot! Chicks or dudes up there will LOVE your blue hands. Make sure you wear a face guard, unless you like tasting it anyway.

That's actually pretty funny!

Well- I guess I may be a bit overqualified... I didn't realize you flyboys cross-trained as lav dumpers as well... I guess those "synergies" are really starting to pay off!

36-24-38???

Come now, really? That's what gets you going? What do you do for pregame, pass her some pork rinds? I mean, really, that's no moon, that's a space station...

Ugggh...

When you sit in an aisle seat, and the gentle breeze blows by you, and then something brushes by your shoulder when she walks by, then you know what you're up against:) And btw, it's a wide aisle airbus i'm talking about.

They look at your LORs during the interview. The active line pilot interviewing me knew the Delta pilot who gave me the recommendation.

I had to bring up my LOR during mine. None of them knew my reference... I guess mileage may vary. They did purposefully read the LOR during the interview after I brought it up.

Displaying one's best "blue steel" look apparently works well. ;)

As much as I make fun of the smut that shows up on this site, the heads up I got on the window from here is what I think got me the interview along with a superbly written LOR from a retired family friend. Good luck to all those applying- it truly is a wonderful job.

What's wrong with a little junk in the trunk? :D

You CAN get hired by Delta WITHOUT internal recs.

Two of my friends did.

At CAL it is all about who you know. Like in India or Mexico. And if you are a girl with no PIC and less than 1500 TT but sleeping with a sim instructor you get a preferencial interview no later than first week of hiring.

If you are a son of top wigs in Fligth ops - you don't even need to bother with the regionals, CFI is good enough.

Also if your dad scabbed for CAL you have a good shot too.
Delta is a class airline where you can. Go to carrer fairs!

The did read the letters of rec. In fact the interviewer knew 2 of my recs and he just looked up and said "A recommendation from either of these guys is all I need to see." I sat there and smiled but inside, fireworks were going off and I did a couple of fist pumps and said to myself...show me the money!!!!
