Turkish Airlines Lands at Wrong Airport

I heard that Connie sent people out to drain fuel out of the airplane and cut down trees so that the airplane could get out and make it the rest of the way to Oscoda...but there are a lot of legends out there.

It was a BAX dc-8 not Connie. BAX was flying it up to OSC empty for maintenance on the gear. At the time I think Timco was running the show up there.
BAX ended up getting a ferry permit that required a certain amount of headwind component. If I remeber correctly the crew was relieved of their duty and a managment crew came in and flew her out about a week later when the conditions were sufficient.
The local Fire department evacuated most of the homes that were located within the departure path of 26. They used about 3000-4000 feet to get airborne.
 
And quite a few have turned final for Biggs when they meant to land at ELP,
though I don't know how many have actually touched down. The tower at
ELP keeps an eye out for that....

Yeah that would be an easy mistake to make if you weren't familiar. Ellsworth AFB and Rapid City present the same hazard.

Okay this one just takes the cake.

Regardless of what the ATC did or didn't do, were talking completely across the whole d@mn country not just mixing up De Gaulle and Le Bourget airport's for Christ's sakes...
 
These pilots? Are American pilots immune to landing at the wrong airport??
