Skywest preparing to hire pilots for the acquisition of 30 turboprops for UAL, presumably the Q400. Anyone at skywest care to comment?

They absolutely should be. I hope that St George et al agree. I would also think that SKYW crews would also be on board with that.

Where in the world did you hear this? A friend of a friend of a friend who knows some guy in the training department?

I think even before ASA furloughed they were welcome to come to SkyWest with a "gentleman's interview." I think they even maintained the ASA DOH for certain benefits.

They would have had to had these q's ordered for quite some time because of the backlog of orders for them

Not necessarly. Manufactuers can change the delivery rate on fairly short notice. If Skywest (one of Bombardier's best customers) called up and said we need some Q's and we need them quickly, they would get them. You might pay a little more, but you almost never have to wait until the last one already ordered has been delivered. Add to that this, there are probably more than one customer out there that might just want to defer their delivery.

Manufacturers set their production rate as to always have a backlog. Think about it. What good would it be to have the line shut down waiting for the next order to walk in the door? You have to keep things flowing at a constant rate. You can adjust the rate when need be, but it must always flow.

They have 105 Q400 on current backlog with only 13 designated "undisclosed". http://www.bombardier.com/files/en/supporting_docs/BA-Q-Series_Program_Status.pdf

Not that this means it couldn't be possible.

Yea you get to keep your DOH for travel and vacation benefits. Well at least that's what a bunch of us got when we got hired on after LAX closed.

Hope it's not true. I would like to see that flying absorbed back up into mainline. (unlikely, I know) That would get UAL guys off the street and maybe, just maybe start a flow of jobs the other way.

If true, I'll do everything possible (which really isn't much at the moment) to not let them on property for less than current 700/900 rates (ok, BHO).

Also, if it does happen, ASA guys should get preferential hiring, not just interviews.

Lastly, I never believe this stuff until there's a press release. Cpt Oveur, we need some details of where you got this.

A year ago I called the Airtran rumor bs. I think i'll leave this one alone.

It's true, my uncle who works in Gay porn(owner) heard it from one of his producers he heard if from one of the actors that works part time who is CRJ LAX based FO for Skywest.

Wow, what a coincidence, your uncle has a nephew that works for gay jets.

Not sure if SkyWest Ordered the Q400 but I know a while back Skywest & Bombardier had a meeting and a demo of the Q400. This happened less than 6 months ago. Source is my friend from Bombardier who was on demo team.

They also met with the airport manager and the business development manager at DAB about branded flying a couple of months ago.

All that means is that they are exploring possibilities. Exactly what they should do.

Still waiting for the source of the rumor...
