How is Atlas being awarded IAH-Luanda affecting World?

Go to the Charter or Cargo forums and ask your questions there. That's what WOA does, they are not a Major.

I already asked it here. What are you the "majors" police they have been around longer and made more money than most of the "majors"

How true...and World will probably out live a few "majors" too. If you get technical "Major" is a US designation for an air carrier with annual operating revenue of more than one billion dollars. I guess we'll be seeing Skywest and Republic taking over this forum. Actually god forbid...I think Mesa may count as a Major too...at least they did :). I Don't know why FI doesn't rename this section Legacies, that way we can all post about "the good old days"! Now where it gets confusing and you may have to post each thread twice ( or maybe even three times)....what if you work for a "Low Cost Carrier" that qualifies as a "Major". Or if your with the new "Air Tran Express" you'll really be busy a "Major" "Regional" flying for a "Low Cost Carrier"!! You know what,.... I think the Colonel is right..its probably easier just to stick to the Cargo or Charter boards. Less BS there too you don't see the "Shiny Jet Syndrome" from guys that fly for "Kalitta Connection" or "Atlas Express"!

Any truth to the rumor?

Like the other guy said, with guys on the street, who knows?

Not like it matters, my time isn't competitive AT ALL.

But I sent my resume to my buddy there right before they shut down hiring. He said "yep, gave it to em, you're in the short stack. Problem is, that short stack is pretty tall right now, with A LOT of competitive/qualified guys"

If you can't take a little suggestion about something simple like what forum to post a question on without copping an attitude, you can rest assurred you won't last five seconds at a place like World. The first time you snark at one of their instructors over some procedural item you'll find yourself in the parking lot starting your journey back home.

Now, how would you know?

Col. Savage and others you're right World is old school in their training so its best to come with you're A game for sure. Col. I do not think you meant any disrespect towards WOA by your suggestion to ask in another forum, but with that said I have personally seen the lack of respect some of the Legacy carrier pilots show to WOA crews as if we are less than progressional or worthy since we are "Just another Non Sched". Granted it's a very small group that seems to display this holier than thou attitude. Its funny how we look really good when the Legacy carriers furlough and the holier than thou crowd are looking for a job. But if they are not found out in the interview they usually are found in the course of training.

As for hiring without a recall first of those on furlough would seem highly unlikely if not downright impossible. The Union would not stand for such actions and I am confident the DO and the CP wouldn't even consider something like that. I feel strongly that the Flt Ops Mgmnt. team are all honorable men and will do the right thing by the crews on furlough first. Just my .02........Good Night to all!

When I went through the training at World, it was great. They expected a lot out of you but if there was something you were hung up on they did everything to make you feel good about it. I say again..they expect a lot out of you and you can't be out drinking every night like at some of the recent training I went through. The instructors were great and the Delta facility was great. World is a great company.

I agree, World it top notch, and I would have gone there, if live events would have not gotten in the way. Everyone that was hired when I was love it and wants to make the place their final stop! It is not just another non-sked by a long shot!

In my case, had random chance not gotten in the way and another opportunity presented itself.

Seems like a wonderful place to work with real good people... it's definitely not just another non-sked!

I have nothing but the upmost respect for World crews, and have always considered WOA a cut above in the ACMI industry. I've even kicked my opinion of RedDog up a few notches because to his association with World.

World alumni myself -- was in RedDog's class. As has been posted on this board many times World is probably the best of the non-skeds. Having a tight-knit, unified group of aviators who have every intention of keeping it a career airline ensures this. They've been around for 60 years and rest assured 60 years from now they will still be here.

Having said that, there are pro's and con's with every airline and guys move on for many reasons. Flying for any ACMI carrier is not for everyone -- and can be a culture shock for someone used to flying RJ's around the midwest for 3 days at a time.

I wish my colleagues who've decided to stay at World the very best of luck.

Is that not a bit like saying "my fart would have much more explosive power than yours-if we were to just light 'em off?"

-Get your lighters out....Tool

Yeah, I'm glad the way things worked out. Wouldn't have minded World either, for sure.

Great company, very decent pay, neat flying, and very neat jet.

Any truth to world culture being Jesus freaked?
