Airtran Engine Failure MCO

Just landed as an AirTran 717 was cleaning up on downwind after an engine failure in MCO 17L.

Interesting to see him out there at about 1000 feet crawling up the downwind doing his checklist.

He landed a few minutes later and CFR recommended a precautionary evacuation.

Not sure if they popped the slides or used the CFR's airstairs.

Yeap! MEL the engine does not work. Corrective action= Ok to continue for 3 consecutive days. Do not use the aircraft for EWO.

Rolls Royce has come up with a design change. AAI will do schedule engine changes in the interim on a more aggressive schedule until all engines are retrofitted.

Signs of continued fire in the engine? Other significant damage to the tail (possibly hydraulic or fuel leak) from fan/turbine debris? The fire captain just was bored?
Seriously, you hear from CFR they recommend you evacuate. What do you do? Play 20 questions with them or bail out?

It wasnt a secret. It was on some kind of memo. I remember reading it somewhere. Crewplace maybe. I cannot remember where but I read it some time during the summer or maybe I just dreamed that I did. Being out of my mind is really getting hard to keep track of

When I posted there wasn't anything said about fuel leaks or anything on fire or I missed them. The thread led me to believe he had a simple failure and came back and landed.

Again, the strange hate obsession with AirTran. I know commuting sucks but you should be happy we rejected you, Southwest is a great place to be for the time being.
