09-10-09 | New DEN Service to/ from BOS, GEG, and RNO
Southwest announced Thursday that we will offer new nonstop service between DEN, and Boston Logan, Spokane, and Reno/Tahoe, available for sale immediately. Beginning January 10, 2010, Southwest will fly two new daily nonstop roundtrips between Denver and Boston Logan, one new daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Spokane, and one new daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Reno/Tahoe. EVP Bob Jordan said, “Denver has been, and will continue to remain a focus market for us, and we are committed to adding more flights to more places from the Mile High City. We are connecting our fastest growing city, Denver, to our newest destination, Boston Logan, as well as adding two new travel options from Denver to the west with Reno/Tahoe and Spokane.”

Just think, you could have had an even larger percentage of the traffic at DEN had you just been a bit more fair to the Frontier guys. But now, you can still compete against two other competitors at DEN, and not be as profitable there. You probably would have nailed UAL's coffin, and had free reign to do whatever. Oh well. When it comes to Gary Kelly, as the Lobster man says in the Alltel commercials, "He's FANTASTIC."

Sounds like you want WN to put out United to help Delta. Maybe people at WN realize what Dl hasn't, market share means nothing and they can put these companys to bed with out buying them

Southwest Airlines plans Hub-Denver service

Southwest Airlines says it will launch service from Boston to Denver with two daily nonstop round-trips starting Jan. 10.
The announcement marks the second addition the Dallas-based, lower-price carrier has made to its offering of destinations at Logan International Airport since it began service here Aug. 16.
Southwest has begun taking reservations for flights and is offering introductory fares from Boston to the Denver International Airport as low as $99 each way.
Airline representatives say that the speedy addition of flights is a result of the fact that Boston "continues to exceed our expectations.''
But they also note that the move is part of a push the carrier is making into the Denver market. Besides Boston, Southwest also plans to to add one daily nonstop from Denver to Spokane, Wash., and one to Reno/Tahoe.
"Denver, like Boston, is a good market for Southwest,'' said Rick Seaney, chief executive of Farecompare.com, an airfare comparison shopping site. . "There are a lot of business customers there. They think they can go head-to-head with United,'' which is the top dog in Denver.
This summer Southwest made a $170 million bid to buy Denver-based Frontier Airlines, eventually losing out to Republic Airways. Had Southwest been successful, the deal would have combined the number two and number three carriers in Denver and left Southwest with 36 percent of passengers there, compared with about 37 percent for United, airline analyst Darryl Jenkins of The Airline Zone told a local Denver television station.
"We have been competing with Southwest in a number of cities for a number of years,'' said Robin Urbanski, a spokeswoman for United. "The key for us has been to offer competitive pricing and better service.''
"We think Denver is a vibrant market with both a number of business and leisure customers,'' said Chris Mainz, a Southwest spokesman. "It also make sense in our schedule for customers going coast to coast or anywhere east to west. And to be a player there we need a significant presence if we're to be at all successful.''

I might agree with you on this HOWEVER do you really think that the Frontier guys expectations were reasonable?? They certainly were not in a position of strength yet dealt as though they were in the "pilots seat" .

I hate to see anybody out of a job but they all WILL regret the day they followed the path they chose.

This perspective is exactly why the piloting profession is (and has been) on a downhill slide. "kick 'em while they are down... We got ours!"

When our profession (as a collective) starts thinking more like a Trade Union, will be when our profession starts becoming a career instead of a job.

I Just Love Company Men

Referring to the original post: You just gotta love a good company man that gets his panties wet everytime "his" company gets new airplanes, routes, or turns a profit. "We at (insert company name here) are doing this, we are doing that, we are winners! I'm a winner because my company is a winner!"

Of course you can discount me, I am just another one of those bitter folks who is jealous that he isn't employed by Soutwest. I'm just off to enjoy the weekend with the family.

You, you indefatigable company enthusiast, keep a careful lookout for the company press releases and be sure to check the CEO's phone update every hour just in case some great, new, winning revelation comes to the fore! Remember when your upper management wins, they only get to take a few 10's of millions to the bank, but you, well, you get to post on flightinfo and name drop that you are a pilot for Southwest Airlines. The winningst airline in the business, so, guess what you are? That's right!! You are a winner!!!

Keep jamming to the Southwest company jingle on your i-pod and never, never, report for a flight without polishing your wings for an hour.
