No wonder they're losing money. Buying more gas hogs.

Whats the burn rate on an MD90 and how does it compare to an "efficient" airliner? thanks for the clarification since you're obviously very informed.

It is definitely more economical than the RJ you are flying! It costs significantly less per seat-mile. Plus the thing costs around 1/5th the price of an RJ. And it does not say CONNECTION on the side. Thanks for your concern though.

Let's see.... CRJ-200. ~2500-3000 lbs an hour for 50 pax.

757-200.... ~7000 lbs an hour for 184 pax.

MD-90.. ~5500-6000 an hour for 150 pax.

Who's the gas hog?

guys... these planes will be a one for one swap for the DC-9's so don't get too ahead of yourself with hiring

What if you only have 40-50 pax?

Every airplane has its purpose.

Every airplane is a gas hog half full.

If it is half full, cut two damn RJs and put one mainline airplane. That is exactly what the DAL management is proposing and implementing.

Congrats Delta. Hope they keeping coming for you guys.

More mainline jets and less Connection jets is a good thing.

The -30's and -40's aren't being painted. That's enough proof for me.

Thats because they wont be around for more than a few years at most, but that doesnt mean as we get more md90's that they are a 1 for 1 tradeoff. Also it was explained to me that we have 35 -30's in storage and as the ones flying currently time out they will be swapped 1 for 1 for the ones in storage. then those will be flown till they time out which keeps the current number (higher than originally planned) of -9s flying for us for a couple years. The -40's will be parked once they time out though.
