Ordinarily, I would day, "Don't respond to this. Let ALPA address the issues with pay and working conditions at {insert bottom feeder of choice here}". However, given ALPAs seeming inability to fix ANYTHING and the lack of true reform in this industry, I urge you guys to GO F'ING NUTS!!!! Tell them everything. Tell them about the 4 day trips with three reduced rest layovers. Tell them about sleeping on the airplane during CDOs/highspeeds/illegals. Tell them about having to stand in line for food stamps on first year pay to feed your family. Tell them about Chief Pilots who pressure you to take an airplane that is un-airworthy because they think you'll cave. Tell them that after being so tired on day 4 of a 4 day after three nights of short rest in noisy shady hotels that you felt just barely capable of doing your job in a safe manner.

This is EXACTLY what they want to hear right now. Use this moment (Yes, I know it's crass) to make the flying public understand what they get when they fly on {insert carrier here}....

Yeah, it may be self-effacing, but in the end it just might help you out.......

My opinion.

I think speaking to the news without permission of your company is a sure way to end up job hunting. The problem is, former regional pilots at a major will be happy to talk. These are the same pilots who tell the media that we regional pilots are unsafe, untalented, inexperienced, etc.

Its too bad you feel that way.

I would never trash my former "REgionAL" airline. Great place with lots of great crews and memories. I frequently find myself standing up for them/myself in fact.

I loved my time at XJT and frequently question why I left.

I tell those with nothing to lose to knock yourselves out. Maybe, just maybe, this will lead to the "strong recommendation from the NTSB and support of the public" that is needed to finally raise pay.

There's a lot more to it then pay. Work rules, intimidation, rest, training.

Of course some new rest rules would affect pilot productivity thereby reducing the number of days off one gets. We can't have that!

Seeing that I am furloughed I am seriously thinking of making a reply! I can't complain about being abused cause XJT just never did that to me in almost 2 years. I think the under cutting and outsourcing needs to be brought to light!

The most eloquent solution may be to simply eliminate the regionals.. and I wonder if this is where the debate will eventually wind up.

This will never ever happen!!! Risk versus reward theory, the reward in profits to the share holders, and bonuses to management is fare greater then every few years losing a haul and once or twice a decade killing some passengers.

It doesnt have to be just about being abused. You could talk about the long duty days and low pay. Just because its better than other regionals doesnt mean that its good.

Just to let you know. I just got a call from Lisa Stark at ABC news. She is trying to get a story together for World News and a web story.

Just sent stuff to them. I am unemployed right now, and have been away from the regionals for a two years, so I will give them an earful if they like.

Wait you mean a Morelia layover that is blocked at just over 8 hours with a hour van ride each way is not enough rest? Anyway the real problem that needs to be addressed is the constant outsourcing to the lowest bidder! The only reason this is done is for shareholder return and management bonuses!
