I'm sure people are getting carried away with zeroes but it does beg the question of how things are holding up over at NetJets.

Any furlough rumors?

I literally heard "NetJets is about to furlough 500 to 1000 pilots because business is off by a third this year."

It sounds too stupid to even be remotely true.
 
I seen this thread and im like "flightinfo is living up to it's reputation"

If we furlough we'll be sure to let all you haters know BEFORE the guys who got furloughed know ok?
 
For the record I do not hate NJ. I have met plenty of the people there and they all seemed as nice and professional as could be.

I just wondered if you guys were hurting is all.

Now I see there are ten other threads on this very topic.

well, I guess I shouldn't have said that. Cause I cant really elaborate.

Hopefully we won't furlough anyone. But 500-1000 seems very high. I'd say more like 250-300. And that is a very big IF.

Ouch...........I'm getting furloughed and don't hate anyone at NJ. I'm not sure how to read your response however, are you one who might get furloughed or are you implying that NJ won't furlough?

I hope nobody there does, I talked to a couple of your pilots today and they are hopeful that things are getting better. They said you are over-staffed but can make things work.

What I read from Legacydriver's tone is that he went into this thread not believing that rumor in the first place. It almost sounds to me like "hey, guess what some idiot over at xyz airport told me!" and he shared it for the almost comedic ridiculousness of it.

A buddy of mine was told by a "union rep of another Frac" that NJ was going to lay off 300 a couple of weeks ago. Even gave the exact date the announcemnet was going to be made. Well that date came and is now gone. It was just that. A Rumor. I hope NJ doesn't lay off a single person. I wish that the others, including mine, hadn't. The fact remains that there is a serious over capacity issue with the fractionals as well as the airlines. It will take some time to absorb that over capacity. NJ has some staying power to ride the storm out. The others do not. that's why there are several hundred fractional pilots on the street. Things will turn around, but it will probably never look like it did before. Many of the bottom feeders (i would love to be one) using our services are probably out of the game. They were doing this with bonus income, wages that some consider excessive, and company perks. The dynamics of those revenue streams have changed now that it is popular to grand stand against them in the current populist environment. Some can't afford it any more and others won't do it because of perception issues. I think we are looking at a totally different industry over the next few years.

I agree with this in the short term, but there will always be new money looking for a place to be burned up. The populist outcries will subside and those that can will come back.

If anything, culling the herd now will temper "irrationally exuberant" growth in this industry from reoccurring which will be better for our job prospects/security in the future.

If you think about it, I am sure most of those 300 would be in the XL/XLS and X fleets. Since those fleets are amount the busiest (relative term I am sure) you would probably need to retrain pilots off other fleets to fill there seats.

I do NOT work for Netjets, these are just my thoughts from a business point of view.

It would need to be in the neighborhood of a 15 month furlough, from what I understand, to make it financially prudent. There are "poison pills" in our contract where the company has to provide a couple months severance to each furloughed pilot, as well as the training costs to retrain literally hundreds of pilots into different fleets.

Its amazing the almost pavlovian responses to this poser-poster, from some of our fellow Netjets pilots.
A fool posts the furlough word on an anonymous internet messageboard and a dozen Netjets folks have to jump in and give "their" expert opinion.
Let the haters stew in their own juices.

There's light at the end of the tunnel IMO, and it would be very expensive and disruptive for NJ to furlough. They would be better off riding it out. Good jobs will be available at the end of all this.

Please! It sure is easy to say you have the top customer service in the industry when one of your fellow group of aviators is fighting to get a contract! I don't think you could have said that at the same point in time in your contract negotiations. So please use some context when you are spouting off! We are all professionals and are capable of providing top customer service.
 
You missed Captain Dad's point. He meant that HE has the "top customer service" (whatever the fu ck that means) in the industry, not the company he works for. Jeez-are you ignurant?

Don't they own Flight Safety anyway? I don't think training cost will be an issue, but settlement with the union probably will.....

I tell you what guys,......... instead of talking about our brothers loosing their jobs and trying to predict the future that has not happaned yet, let's all hope for this economy gets better soon, but I mean really soon so we don't have anyone else loose their jobs and I don't care what you do, fly for NJ or work at Taco bell.
