We'll put 757s all day into MDW... Let's see what happens...

It is unfortunate that we (SWA) are bumping up into some of the fortress hubs now but that is where the people are and they should have the choice to ding = be 'free to move around the country' rather than be held hostage by the fortress hub airline.

but, since we are going to places we used to avoid (PHL, IAD, DEN, MSP) are you really serious that you think flooding the routes and losing money is going to work for you. Are NWA (soon DAL) costs that much lower than SWA and your cash position and hedges so much better that you're looking forward to a price/capacity war?

I'm not, although if NWA does in fact flood MDW-MSP, I suspect that SWA will be able to still offer service at a price where we make money. do you think NWA will be making money?

I doubt you'll see us in MEM anytime soon though; not enough business and crappy O&D traffic. although CVG must be percolating up to the top of the 'next best city' list.

At least NWA/Delta lasted the longest on not having them on their turf. Now 2 LCC's to go up against.

Herb made a deal with NWA to stay out of MSP if they wouldn't fight our getting gates in Chicago. Apparently that wasn't the case or the time limit expired. or maybe because NWA is becoming DAL, our lawyers figured the deal was off. In all likelihood, there was no deal and it was just a good story to tell at the bar.

You're kidding, right? In a deregulated environment, Herb is making deals with other airlines as to where SWA or they fly into or out of?

In all likellihood...it probably was just a good story to tell at the bar....after drinking waayyyyy too many....just before closing time.

DLs been going head to head with SWA in SLC for years with good results. NWAs been doing the same in DTW.

Are you referring to the mainline jets or the 1.3 zillion RJ's we see painted in DL and NWA livery?

It's late and I've already downed 2 shots of Scope tonight so can't be held responsible for any incoherent posts.

Texas-jet,

good point. glad I made it yesterday. In fact, you cut and pasted it right above your own statement. reading comprehension = read the whole paragraph, not just the topic sentence. Maybe you need to go back to a refresher course. joke.

actually it is so close to my statement that I would accuse you of plagiarism except for you misspelled likelihood, so at least it was your own work. also a joke.

MSP-MDW, huh? Sounds familiar. Yes, now I remember, before I even heard of John Dennison our former CEO and the former CFO of SW, I believe I was flying this route on occasion.

Actually Midway Airlines was flying it even way before you guys. Many of our ex-Midway pilots have told me it was their best money making route. We shouldn't have waited this long.

Just match them flight for flight, same price, with aircraft equipped with live TV, on demand movies, wifi, and a route structure and frequent flyer program that will take you anywhere in the world, and let the customer decide.

You forgot about those top notch NWA and Delta CSA's and FA's. Don't worry Ace, the customer will decide.

Hey guys, whts the big debate about? It's our hub to your hub and visa versa. The competition will be fun ! Although there may be some snags. I don't think that you guys will be able to taxi at 100 knots in MSP :)

I have heard that SWA pulled some flights out of DTW recently.
