Mesaba adjusting -900 and SF34 vacancies

Ok Siggi Pipi, I will bite. Did you not realize when you took the left seat of the 900 that you were a very junior person going to a very senior airplane? I think that you did. And I can probably assume that you knew you would be on reserve at the bottom of the list. You still get paid way more than you would if you were a Saab Captain for your longevity doing considerably less work. How much have you actually flown on reserve, anyway? I know that ready reserve is pretty bad but it kinda goes with the territory for where you are right now. If it is REALLY that bad you could just go back to the Saab, you know. I am sure you could hold a nice schedule on that right now.

I realized everything EXCEPT that they were going to start implementing ready reserve. It hadn't been used at any time I was here as FO. I fully expected to at best hold build up reserve. I have no issues sitting at home on straight reserve. It isn't the greatest but not a big deal for me. I have spent most of my career past flight instruction sitting on call. The only times I sat around the airport before though was while on a charter or air ambulance trip. And that would be in a MUCH more comfortable FBO, (with a tv to watch the games on the weekend). Depending on how things go I may very well bid back to the Saab down the road. For now I'm just riding this out and hoping that RR is just around for this growth phase. And once they get the staffing set back normally (which granted is understaffed) then RR will go away.

No thanks, I'd take the displacement back to the Saab. Not worth commuting to stay on jet pay.
 
Come on WMU... RR is in the contract that was signed in 2004 and the one before that. It's addressed in the FOM as well. THIS ISN'T NEW! I don't like sitting RR anymore than you do, but to feel duped and hoodwinked into doing RR is just crazy talk! Just because they haven't been consistent in using it, doesn't mean it isn't fair game. JR assign in also in the contract, but they don't often use it either.

Every pilot has a copy of the contract. It's on the internet... there is no excuse to not know what's in the darn thing. The company has no obligation to educate you on your own contract prior to your bid preferences.

Just thank your lucky stars Ready Reserve at Mesaba is not part of the actual lines like at many other airlines. I have a few friends that did Ready reserve every single day with only 11 days off at American Eagle, and they did it for about 4 to 5 months. Either that, or doing charter flying. Try being on call for 3 1/2 years. It's like being ready reserve 24/7 I sh** you NOT!
Hang in there brother. Do what i use to do, bring your laptop and catch up on movies, or get Rosetta Stone and learn a new language.
 
relax guys, I know it was in the contract (something that hopefully changes along with several other items) It was however never used since the 04 contract was signed. As such I had no expectation of them starting to use it. Yes it is legal, just as it's legal to have them switching contact times. That sucks too. Out of base reserve, not the nicest. Junior manning, at least other than the loophole if on P3 you can generally avoid a JM. Now JM shouldn't be allowed if there are any furloughs but otherwise I don't see that as a big deal, just don't answer the phone. How about premium pay for holidays. Leg guarantee instead of trip guarantee. Blended FO payrate. I could keep going but we have what we have for several more years. Overall I still think Mesaba is one of the better regionals. It was my first choice and still is.
 
I know for a fact, the company is to have ready reserve when they have the ability to do so. When they are short crews, gues what? No ready reserve. SO when you see in the MSP crew room all the chairs filled with ready reserve, that means three crews on ready reserve. So we must be slightly over staffed-For what? I hear there will be a similar announcement as there was last week about new airplanes. Rumor has it it will be tomorrow, or some other friday in the future.
