Since Pool III is just about drained and we may be pooling up again if classes do stop after September, I figured starting another pool thread might help keep the newest group in the loop.

Where did you hear that classes will stop after Sep 08?

Trying to get clarification from a furlough assistance guy at my airline who talked to a SWA hiring member.

Guys hired not in class will be put in a pool.

Hiring will end soon.

Of course, this isn't official from SWA as their take is two in September and we'll know more 4 weeks before another class. They also say classes will be end of 4th quarter this year, first of next, but they have been saying that since day one while internal emails are saying two a month. Believe me, I want to start right away and don't want to give out bad info. I am just trying to fill the void from credible sources that usually are pretty correct.

Let's hope that RNP training and the current shortage of pilots at SWA (as "perceived" by some) is enough to keep it going.

What's wrong turd? Did you think I was pulling the "no more classes after Sept" out of my a$$?

The head of training down in Dallas said that they were "overmanned" for the winter schedule.

Looks like they are closer to furloughs or voluntary LOAs than more new hire classes. Looks like you need to stall your retirement/separation paperwork.

Tanker, thanks for your enthusiastic post.

Another inside SW source says that even with the reduction of flights for the winter, they will be undermanned due to upcoming training.

Furloughs may happen someday but there are two new hire classes in the next few weeks so I don't think they are closer to doom than you want them to be.

If I remember right you said LONE sep. class? Wrong again! Keep the misinformation rolling tanker!

Your right. I forgot about those 24 suckers that will soon be sitting reserve in OAK for the foreseeable future.

As for you, you might want to look into another line of work until 2010.

Tanker, for you, keepin' it real (a term that has met its death except for those far behind the group)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFXwvS6SCQk

Not sticking my head in the sand. Just not taking a troll's word about an airline's possible furloughs just because classes stop.

As for the rest, confirmed what I had originally heard about hiring and classes from a source I count as accurate.

I'm revising plans for the next couple of months.

Which source? That hiring will stop or that it will continue at 2 classes per month and end in the 4th or 1st quarter.

Thanks

Tanker it has said "mil soon to be civ in" your profile for awhile now. Do you have plans to get out anythime soon?

Big, good luck with the wait, but I don't think it will be as long as some might have you believe. PM me and I'll tell you what I know. I'll see you in Dallas soon.

Took the 20 yr bonus when no one was hiring. Got a while to go before I start at SWA. I'll probably be in class with MIL17GUY when classes start back up.

remember all in january-- you had tanker going nuts about 2010 for class dates--- and now that entire pool is in class or online-
just be cool- you have no control over the rest of the process- be ready for a long sit- and then it's just nice if it happens sooner. I hope it does.
Richard- wow... don't stress about reserve-- 15 days off - for so many friends- their life on reserve is way better than most airlines

Had a new hire in the jumpseat yesterday and he said there is going to be 1 class in october. Funny how we get all our info from them. I dont think we're understaffed, though. The last thing I read from the union was that we are slightly overstaffed.

I don't know if SW is still interviewing/hiring but it sounds like the 2 classes per month through the end of the year won't be happening as it currently stands. The two classes in September still look good to cover vacations over the holidays.

I'm trusting this info as it is coming from two completely different sources that I trust within SWA.

I think SWA is doing this for all the right reasons although it wasn't broadcast too well to the pilot group from my understanding. Victors, from the latest email chain, I would say you are correct with the overstaffing. The understaffing came from a friend who may just be looking at it subjectively.

Interview date if you have the type already. Type date for those that received the offer without the type.

Part of SWAPA pres blog:

So what does it really mean to us? 190 flights will be removed from the schedule effective with the January 11th schedule. The newswire stories have stated a 6% capacity reduction. However, the Company is stating it is really slightly over a 4% capacity reduction. Additionally, with the March 4, 2009 schedule, capacity will begin to be reintroduced into the schedule as loads dictate. Most of the flights that are being removed from the schedule are early morning and late evening flights which have been poor performing flights for some time. In other words we have been losing money on these flights for quite a while…a lot of money. The amount of money (confidential) the Company feels that we can save in 1Q09 with this reduction is staggering if they are correct. But there is an impact to our pilot group.
The Company is estimating that January and February ’09 monthly bid line averages will decline by approximately one trip for pay. I would also expect less open time available than normal for these two months. Typically January and February have less open time to begin with. But in this instance I would expect even less than normal open time to be available. Both of these estimates at this point are just that, an estimate. The pilot schedule has not been built and will not for a couple of months. Obviously if we have too many pilots on property for the flying available, our income will decline. To stem the possibility of overstaffing and diluted trip totals, I asked the Company to immediately reevaluate hiring needs. In response to that request the Company has decided that we will have no classes beyond September unless demands dictate otherwise. There are two classes in September that will go ahead and run as planned. Those classes are to cover additional vacations through the holidays. This will provide adequate staffing through the holidays (an important QOL issue) but will create a small overstaffing situation in 1Q09.
Additionally, life will get more difficult for our commuters who typically use these flights for commuting. We have had discussions already this week with the Company to ease the burden and difficulty of commuting. We’ll provide more information when it becomes available. Please check the schedule for January and plan accordingly.
Many of you have asked what impact this will have on codesharing. There is no fleet reduction planned with this capacity reduction. The Company will be in compliance with the growth metrics in SL 32 year end 2008. The Company will also be in compliance with language tentatively agreed in our contract negotiations with respect to growth and codesharing. Compliance for 2009 growth requirements in our language will be evaluated when yearend 2009 fleet totals are known.
In closing, let me be clear. It appears that this apacity reduction will be short in duration. That is to be determined however. Capacity at this point will begin to be reintroduced in March but I do not believe we will see an immediate 4+% capacity increase in March. It will be slow and deliberate unless circumstances change.

Whats the latest time frame anyone had to wait to get their references called after the interview?

I've heard anywhere from 1.5 weeks to no references called and they still got hired. Any truth to this?

Obviously hearing is the best thing, but if you don't should one assume you aren't getting hired?

I'm in the Sept decision board, assuming I passed the interview.
