It's fairly simple. Use what infrastructures and technology that are already in place...

1. Nuclear power for the grid (produce hydrogen at night...like the FRENCH)
2. Natural gas for the cars (plenty of it/cheap/clean)
3. Kerosene for the jets.

You can thank me later.

I'm still amazed that so few people get this...

A few things that you niglect to mention. Oil drilled out of ANWR and the OCS is not guaranteed to be sold here in the US. We send allot of oil out of alaska to Japan already.

It doesn't matter where the oil goes as long as goes into the market. Supply goes up. Price goes down. Oil prices are down already with just the discussion of drilling.

Viable alternatives to oil are not out there as of yet. Most are too expensive for the average citizen. Most will not power the important things we need (Semi Trucks coming to your grocery store) (Ships that transport goods to this country) (Airplanes... Ie.. your JOB). Hopefully at somepoint down the road we will get that type of technology. Its not here yet.

For most of the countries population Wind is not an alternative. Maybe some small midwest town can be powered with windmills but you will NEVER power a large city.

Drilling for Oil in the USA is the only Quick Fix and is the best way for us all to keep Jobs in AVIATION !

T Boone Pickens is a farse... and he is using OUR taxpayer dollars for his lame plan.

The point wasn't that both France and the US have safety concerns to the degree that Chernobyl did. The point is that no matter how safe they are they still get liabilty caps which save them hundreds of millions of dollars in insurance payments. Still a form of subsidy.
I personally don't mind subsidizing nuclear energy. I do mind people who claim that nuclear has proven profitable without generous subsidies. If it's okay to subsidize nuclear why not wind and solar?

I don't consider a liability cap a true subsidy. I consider it tort reform and I'd like to see more of it.

Mississippi enacted tort reform a few years ago, and it has really helped the economy, especially health care costs. Unfortunately, other Democratic special interest groups, the American Bar Association and the American Trial Lawyers Assn., make it difficult to pass tort reform on a national scale.

If Boone Pickens really believed in Windmills why is he too scared to spend his own money on the project. Instead he uses Taxpayer dollars.

T Boone Pickens is using government funding to buy those windmills. Windmills that will never be able to power big ciites like NYC, Chicago, LAX, Atlanta, Etc. Wind power througout the USA is a farse. In some regions with a lot of wind.. a lot of land and a few houses it will work.

They should probably set up a ring of windmills around Congress.

No they are not down for that reason. There was an unexpected build in inventories. Remember a few months back when Saudi said they will be increasing production by 700000 barrels a day? After that announcement, the price basically went up.

Your full of crap.

The reason it matters is because the drill, drill, drill croud keeps saying that it will lower our dependance on foriegn oil. Well if our demand stays the same, and some of that new oil is shipped over seas, then you still have to import the same amount.

It is also miss leading to say things like ANWR would supply 5% of US consumption because it implies that the affect on our gas price would be at least a 5% savings. Well oil is priced based on world supply and demand. So it would add only about 1% to world supply, and would have a negligable affect on oil prices.

ANWR at its peak would produce about a million barrels per day. Sounds awful close the the 700K barrels the Saudis pledged to increase. When the price went up.

Keep spreading the half truths.

That is a good point. The same arguement applies to stem cell research. If it is so promising, why does the federal government have to fund the research? Private companies should be standing in line to invest.

Hmmmm.....

I use my money and collect profit or loss.

I use your money and collect profit or lose your money.

I think it makes perfect sense to me.
