Yes Fired. "Position ELIMINATED" "Permanent" Starting sept 6th. Email came out last night along with list of effected pilots.
Why not FURLOUGHED? To protect 15 OLD easter guys still hobbling around the training department. The contract states that before a line pilot is furloughed they must furlough the retired instructors first. To get around this they have decided to FIRE all Probationary pilots on Sept 6th. The list goes back to Sept 10th 2007. WOW what a coincedence. To kill 177 pilots careers and throw them into a market where there is no jobs with no hopes of returning is beyond imagination. The old guys have maybe 3-4 years left tops and all have retirments, grown kids, homes ect. I hope they sleep well at night that family will be broken and careers thrown away. This is AirTran. Maybe a good place to work a few years back but now the abomination of the industry. I rank MESA higher than AirTran.
When the industry rebounds I would take a long hard look at AirTran before applying. The first problem in the industry they will Fire you.

I sincerely hope this is not true. As for your connection to Eastern scabs - apparently the lesson learned is scab away with no consequencees. What a bunch of sh$t!!!!

If true it's up to every pilot on your seniority list to show your management the error in their ways

This is 100% true. The WARN notice reads:
"The pilot job eliminations are expected to occur on September 6, 2008 and last for an indefinite duration (permanent)."

It was addressed to the President of the NPA and Signed by the Senior VP of Human Resources and Administration.

Don't worry they will fire 177 guys and when it is time to rehire, there will be 1,177 guys lined up for the job. We as pilots are our own worst enemys in this career!! Things will never change untill everyone gets on board and stops this abuse by Airline Mgmt. It is time for us to take back this industy, or it may be too late.

It's time for the AirTran pilots to get over the "Stockholm Syndrome" now that hostages are being executed.

I remember when Chautauqua did the same thinng. They parked all their Saabs. In order to avoid retraining costs, they just fired every first officer on probation flying the Saab. If you were on the jet, you got to keep your job.

Indefinite means undefined or unknown. It does not mean permanent.

It says "(permanent)" in the actual notice? That is very strange language.

This is a declaration of war by management.
Are we gonna duck for cover or fire back?
I never thought in my wildest dream that this day would have came.
from this day on,no more middle ground, pick up your side and get ready to fight.

My condolences to the affected pilots. I know it will be hard on you all, but I'll help all of the Citrus folks I know. As for the rest of the guys on the AirTran seniority list, you HAVE TO make your heartless mgt team bleed.
