I'll put this under another thread, but who is hiring right now? Any 121 pilots have recent luck getting hired on with Net jets? I've heard they are keeping a little distance from the flood of 121 apps. How about overseas jobs? Looks like my furlough number might be up Oct 1st. Even if it's not, I don't think F9 has many more months left..under their current financial situation that is. Also, i was told Colorado would give me $6000 towards a type? Any suggestions? I don't think having a SW 737 type assures me an interview. I might be better off with a different type.

Thanks for any input.

Sorry to hear what's happening to you but take your 6000$ get your 320 type rating and qatar airways will welcome you any day.
Good luck.:erm:

Good luck..

Do you want to stay in the airline industry? Maybe consider a King Air school or Citation school. I know it might seem like a backward step but managment fees are around $1000 monthly before day rates. Work up to 3 or 4 under management and charge $400-$500 daily for contract time. Every airport in the nation has this equipment on the field and there is always someone looking for a good pilot. Just an idea.

Don't know if the 737 type is worth it....do you have recent PIC time?

I'm a career F/O (thanks usair) with tons of 737 time and have had an app on file with Southwest for like, 8 years now, with no response. They're looking for captains.

i have 4500 pic in a crj...two years now been an fo in the a320. I'm thinking the 737 type might not be the best move at the moment....but who know?

You're recent enough on the PIC for SWA, a 737 type from Higher Power in Dallas would probably be a good move (hint hint).

Thanks. I'm going to play it by ear...I wont get a type unless im actually furloughed...I do see it coming....chpt 7 even. Our union is trying to set up discounts for numerous type ratings with several sim providers. I'd prefer to stay here in Denver to do the training.

World is hiring both F/O's and CA's.
Atlas/Polar is hiring 747 F/O's.
Gemini is hiring F/O's.

Those are the only 121 gigs I know of who are looking for people, and there's a ton of Maxjet/EOS/ATA/Aloha pilots who are 737/757/DC-10/MD11 current applying as well, so it's a crap shoot.

There's quite a few charter and corporate gigs still hiring, but they don't like airline people as a general rule.

Kunpeng (used to be a joint venture with Mesa) is looking for CRJ CA's but, if you have a family, the time away sucks - they'd have to move in order to keep ANY kind of family life.

There's quite a few China/Japan/India 737/RJ jobs available. Check out the advertisers at the top of this board (WASINC, PARC, IAC, etc).

Good luck,,,

Thanks again. i just dropped some change and signed up with air inc. Geeze, I hoped i'd never have to do that again. Two chpt 11BK's, an 89 day strike, numerous pay cuts and now a possible furlough and likely chpt 7. I guess i have my big boy pants on now. I'm a real airline pilot... ah, to live the dream.

If you want to fall back on that CRJ type there's several international opportunities paying around $10k/mo.

Start with www.avianco.com and www.wasinc.net

It's likely a step back but a pay increase. Best of luck to you in your endeavors.

I'm way out of the loop. is higher power a type rating provider? How are they tied in with sw? speaking of which, SW pilots, when do you anticipate having a denver base?

Colonel Savage:

I know alot of pilots that went to Higher Power for their 737 type ratings. They 3 were current PIC on jets, 2 Check Airmens. Did not get them a job. One person I know was called by SWA a year after they interviewed and asked if they were going to reapply. Their answer was NO. When asked why, they said they were in process of moving to Memphis. (Now this person was happy they were turned down.)

I'm saying (once again) it helped them get the INTERVIEW, not the job.

Are you denying they have the Saturday afternoon Ice Cream Parties at the Higher Power campus with members of the SWA training department in attendance?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

None of the CRJ jobs in China are paying $10k a month.

They pay $8k a month and have paid housing and per diem that they account for another $2k of "compensation".

Living in China isn't worth $8k a month to me with no set days off in a row to return to the U.S.

Most of the decent jobs are paying $10k BASE salary PLUS housing PLUS per diem PLUS commuting with 12+ days off every month, sometimes 15 in a row after 45 days on...

Do your homework before you sign on with WASINC or others...

I had no idea that you have 2 yrs of 320 time. My buddy with 2300 tt rj and 800 pic just got hired with qatar as 330 fo making 10000$ a month tax free with ton of benefits that you won't be able to match, he also says with 320 type and time they're hiring capt's for 320 (13000 a month tax free). Emirates also hiring and have explosive expansions. Hope you find something soon but the two i mentioned above are diffenetly worth of looking in to.

My experience tells me that the King Air or Citation type would be nearly worthless without recent actual time in the aircraft - at least 50-100 hours or so. Especially for an ex-121 type - you've kinda got two strikes against you from the get-go.

Rumor has it, that this question is contingent on the demise of your current employer. My buddy told me that the city of Denver won't expand whatever concourse that SWA is in. The city wants to see what happens. And then they would like a "more stable" carrier in the termainal that F9 is in.

I'm certainly not trying to dump on my F9 bros but the WN picture is looking strong. In two years we've gone from 2 gates to 9 gates and flights are at 115 a day come August. I would fully expect a Denver base in 2009 - and it'll be so senior I'll never hold it!

Good luck guys. I know we're not the end all be all to everybody but we are hiring and it aint a bad gig.

Gup

This is just a standard cyclical issue. In two years all the major carriers will be hiring and oil will be sub $100 a barrel once more. Then you'll have the choice between flying a 737 for the rest of your career (which I'm not crapping on...on the contrary I'm a SWA fan myself and alot of my military bro's are there), or having the option to fly domestic or internationally with carriers that have both the 73 and 75's, 76's, and 777's.

We are in the same boat, in a matter of weeks it will be my number 3 furlough. Still have no idea of what I am going to do, have been applying everywhere though to save my house.

Good luck to everyone in this crazy career (if you want to call it that).

Yes I'm denying it. Some of the guys in the training department have their apps in. They are not line pilots. Only the check airmen are. I highly doubt that Crummy, Magill, Martin and Torti are having ice cream with you on Saturday.

Crummy, Magill, Martin and Torti are not who you need to impress to get an interview. Having Ice Cream with them would not do you much good. If you are serious about coming to WN, get the type from somewhere. It doesn't really matter. Haveing said that, there is no better place to get it than Higher Power.

This is from http://www.jetcrew.com/gallery/album1-01.htm better known as "Higher Power Aviation" :

We're Nuts Too!
In recent years, more new-hires at Southwest Airlines have come from Higher Power Aviation than any other training center. HPA offers our students a unique training experience in which they can learn about the opportunities and culture of Southwest Airlines. The friendly folks from Southwest Airlines' People department normally come by for weekly visits to meet with our Boeing 737 type rating students.

I appologize, the people from the Training Dept never get near the place, it's the people from the People Department!!
