I think I posted this somewhere else.

I spoke with somone in pilot recruiting yesterday.

They aren't looking to interview too many prior applicants. She said that they're interviewing about 2% of those that have interviewed prior. SWA is interested in those that have recent types and haven't interviewed before.

Good luck.

Good luck to you, Max.

My 2nd interview happened 2 years from the first (2nd rejection letter came the same EXACT day as the 1st one, 2 years later - weird karma). Re-applied one year to the day from my 1st interview, updated app every month, sent them a postcard or letter to the PD once every 3 or 4 months, finally went to AIR, Inc and had an interview the next month.

Was more relaxed at the 2nd interview, but actually thought I interviewed better at the first one; both were enjoyable. Either way, even with 3 internal LOR's, one from a system C.P., still didn't get it.

Won't apply again. Heard all sorts of "3rd or 4th attempt successful" stories but, quite honestly, if they didn't want me the first or second time, it's their loss. Not going to continue to be the trained dog jumping through hoops in hopes of a bone.

I have lots of friends over there; it's a great company, I appreciate the jumpseats, and wish them all the best. I just don't like playing games. YMMV.

The hiring process is truly an enigma. I would say your buddy stands an excellent shot of getting called if he invests in the type. As for getting the second shot...who knows. I don't think anyone in the PD would mind if you called them and asked what you could do to stand out to get that second call. In any case, best of luck to you!

The PD should not be interviewing pilots. Check airman shouldn't be involved either. One of them called a friend of mine, that I've flown with, too Autocratic. I don't think she knew what autocratic meant. Pilots should interview pilots. I have seen my share of folks that make me scratch my head, but never fear they were supremely trained in the military. I am sure all the kernels are scratching their head about me too.

Unfortunately I got the same story when I spoke with Lindsay Lang two weeks ago. I am going to keep my fingers crossed though. I figure I'll keep updating my stuff regularly until they tell me to stop or I hit 65.

don't waste your money to get the type unless you've got cash to burn

I spent $8,000 back in 2003 to get it when they req'd it to even get the interview

interviewed in 2006, didn't get the job, now I sort of regret spending the cash in the first place

I couldn't agree more, and that's even after my 1st and only interview where I had all my refs called, plenty of internal LORs, etc, no dice...

i blew the 7.5k a year ago, plus the 2 weeks of hotel/food, and the 2 weeks of time off...haven't heard a peep...but i'm not a check airman either...guess they like those nowadays...hope i don't regret spending the money...but everyday that goes by makes me question the decision...

I got my type in december and havent heard anything either. I was starting to get worried but now that theres others out there that are in my shoes, I don't feel so bad. I guess its just not our time. I've got roughly 5000 TT, 2000 PIC, and a type. I'm hoping they're going to have another career fair.

Is showing up at career fairs a good way to cut to the front of the line in respects to getting an interview? I don't even know the protocal for a career fair...do you wear a suit?
