Jumpseating after drinking.

For sexual intercourses sake...why is it that this profession revolves around alcohol? Fer cryin' in the mud..this isn't f'ing college anymore.

I have 17 f'ing days off a month...why the flock to I need to booze it up during my trips or going to and from work??

I've flown with guys that insist we are going on a bar crawl during overnights! For the love of vagina's a bar CRAWL!! I don't mind a few drinks with dinner but this isn't Kappa f'ing Sig.

On the other hand, the FARs prohibit alcohol on the FLIGHT DECK and say that no person shall be admitted to the flight deck following the consumption of alcohol. The FARs make no mention of an off-line jumpseater being prohibited from drinking in the cabin. You guys might think it's wrong, but it is certainly not illegal.

Actually you answer your own question here. "No person" would encompass the jumpseater.

I think the discussion is about drinking in the cabin. And no matter what, there has to be some descretion to this. I won't stick my head in the cockpit asking for a ride with booze on my breath. However, if I'm out of uniform and siting in the cabin, I've got no problems with having a wine with my dinner.

A few months ago my dad and I were flying on a certain Atlanta based carrier from JFK to DUB. He had a positive space business class ticket, I was jumpseating. We got to go into the business class lounge and he got himself a beer and asked if I wanted one, too. I said I didn't want to, because I didn't want to blow beer in the captain's face when I ask him for a ride. He concurred it was probably smart.

They let us sit together in business, and then in cruise I had a few drinks with him. No big deal, if you ask me. Everyone will have different opinion on this I guess.

If we're talking about being under the influence while occupying an actual jumpseat (or while being in uniform) you'll get no argument from me that it's wrong.

Too many freakin' jerks in this industry by the looks of the comments on this board.

I remember Tee-Dub well. Used ride them regularly back in the '90's. Always treated me well. Used to ask if I had a "wet suit." Thanks drinkin' clothes to you tea-totlers. I miss 'em, too.

I'll also give a big thank you to the AAL crew, except the FO, that got me home the day my airline shut down, and the FA's that gave me two bloody-mary's on the way home. Dispatch didn't want to let me on and the FO didn't either. The CA, someone whose jumpseat I sat on the month prior (stone-cold-sober), was very accomodating and helpful as well as another pilot positioning to training.

I'd tell the guy to buy some Altoids next time.

If you're ever my jumpseat rider sitting in back you can drink. Just not too much and don't make an a$$ of yourself.

I remember the TW days also. Sitt'n in first with 3 other TW guys tippin them back. I think the most important point is like you said (dont make and a$$ of yourself).

Are definitley a lot of high and mighties on this board. I think one poster made it clear that it is NOT an FAR bust drinking in the back. And as far as appropriate times to drink......I cant think of a better time (not that I have since TW) than after a 5-6 day trip and a 3.5 hour commute home to have one...or two....or....never mind. I guess now I need help also?

I think its funny how things run rampent on this board! The jumpseater (who nobody knows anything about) all of a sudden has marriage propblems and needs counciling and is a safety detrement to all!
Now, do I agree with what he did? HELL NO. I especially dont like the attitude displayed when busted. Personally I probably would have given the Father son speach and based on his attitude (which again did'nt impress me) may have pursued it further.

Anyway, the captains calling.....morgan that is!

Seriously though, I doubt him having one or two would've produced a different outcome.....come on. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you dont drink? Not being offensive, just my guess.

Kind of sick humor, especially if you've lost someone to a drunk driver, but somebody once said "I drive better drunk because I know how dangerous it is, so I'm extra careful".
