Are you boasting over the fact that you drive 2 gas-guzzling American made land yachts? While I'm not naive enough to say that these behemoths are the main reason we're seeing such slim supplies (according to our wonderful news services), they sure as sh%$ don't help either. If it takes $4/gal gas to wake our manufacturers up along with our gas guzzler loving hoardes, I'm all for it. Look at the used car lots, nothing but a testiment to the stupidity of alot of folks who purchased these things. And people wonder why America has such a rotten rap nowadays..

Agreed. Sadly we have guys on here representing those that assume their behemoth Navigators gives them some sort of 'safety premium'. It's partly that overly enjoyable 'culture of fear' that makes our society look pathetic and keeps Hugo Chavez's bank account fat.

Funny how there are millions of fathers in Europe who quite successfully drive their children to school every morning in small, fuel efficient cars. Gee at 8 bucks/gallon, wonder why that is?

I can't stand SUV's because they drive horribly - slow to accelerate, stop, turn.. hard to manuever for distracted drivers in tight parking spots. I've concluded large SUV's are cars for people who don't like cars.

Both myself and her father take my 11-year old stepdaughter on motorcycle rides regularly.

Albeit on weekends in the residential section of our neighborhood out to the lake or something, but that's what helmets were invented for.

You guys need to lighten up.

Fins, I was joking about the motorcycle engine and the Acura, although I did discuss it with my metalurgist friend. He said it could be done and would definitely get much better gas mileage but the torque curve for acceleration would be like pulling a 4 ton dump truck up a hill with a Yugo. :)

You're right about driving an SUV though. My wife had 3 small wrecks from backing into things (although one person hit her so I guess that's 2 wrecks), so I made her sell the SUV and put her in my Audi S4. Trouble-free for 3 years now. She just couldn't drive something she couldn't see around.

Was just trying to stir the pot since everyone else has thread hijacked this so far from its original point that it's pathetic.

Oh, and I predict an AA Ch. 11 filing before the end of the year. Pesky pilots have to be stopped, you know.

I grew up in Europe so you'll never catch me driving an SUV. I'm all about small fast and maneuverable baby!

That said, if someone wants to drive an SUV or feels the need to own one, let' em. To each their own, eventually when gas prices hit $8/gallon, they will eventually see the light. Exactly what happened in Europe.

Honestly, the biggest reason I don't want to drive an SUV? Simply because of all the damage they cause when they do hit someone. I constantly hear the same old argument... "I drive an SUV because it makes me and my family safer." Well, did you ever stop and wonder about the other drivers around you, and the damage your behemoth would cause if you hit them? I personally do not want to add to the problem - and the risk - by driving one. JMO.

You don't actually think those bimbos driving huge suvs care about someone else do you? I friends wife told me about a family at the school where she coaches. It was found out when one of the children applied for sports the family didn't have health insurance. Mommy however with her fake boobies($10k) was able to drive around in a new Escalade($60k). I'm sure the kids skipped meals at home so mom could have a latte. How pathetic is that.

It is pathetic, but that kind of selfishness is typical of large 4wd stationwagon drivers.
