Losing 328 million isn't too bad considering AA's fuel cost rose over 700 million in that same quarter! Maybe we can be like the cruise industry, charge a rollling fuel surcharge for those who've already bought their tickets!

Are you boasting over the fact that you drive 2 gas-guzzling American made land yachts? While I'm not naive enough to say that these behemoths are the main reason we're seeing such slim supplies (according to our wonderful news services), they sure as sh%$ don't help either. If it takes $4/gal gas to wake our manufacturers up along with our gas guzzler loving hoardes, I'm all for it. Look at the used car lots, nothing but a testiment to the stupidity of alot of folks who purchased these things. And people wonder why America has such a rotten rap nowadays..

I am afraid we will be seeing a lot of this in the next few days as everyone reports 1st quarter earnings. Today I see oil hit a new record again, 115 something a barrel. Yet as I was dropping my daughter off at school on my motorcycle (60 mpg) 8 out of 10 cars were medium to large SUVs with the mom and only one or two kids. So with the weak dollar and our addiction to oil I guess the price will just keep going up. And on a another note, on my street of 11 houses 4 sit empty, casualties of the sub prime crash. Yikes

You should be arrested for putting your kid on a motorcycle for a daily commute.. Dont take it personally but I have known 10 people either severly injured or killed.. I am sure your skills are greta but that lady you dont like in the suv with her kids screaming while talking on her cell phone wont even know she just ran the two of you over... Be careful man 60 mpg just isnt worth it

I'm experimenting with putting a bigger 1000cc motorcycle engine in a late 90's Acura.

When done, hoping for 60+ mpg with about the same 0-60 response as the Acura originally had.

Have an ex-squid metallurgist doing my torque converter to transmission work... Wave of the future! ;)

Now... what was that about AA?

My addition to this thread was not meant to be a my car is safer cause it weighs 6000lbs discussion. It was that as airline employees we are not going to see much good news for a long time with fuel being so expensive. And as for fuel coming down to a reasonable price, I don't see that happening with our current usage in this country and the global demand. So we shall just keep seeing poor earnings and those with small bankrolls closing their doors. I personally would like to see all airlines in the black and able to afford great salaries for all employees.

Oil price up 45%. Demand and usage YOY is +2-3% in the US. I drive an 1 SUV compared to 500 mopeds in China. Add the weaker US dollar that the price of Oil is tied to.... Oh wait, Its just easier to blame what the eye sees. Those BIG NASTY SUVs.

Good God! It is a good thing I didn't say I was carring a 9mm pistol too. Then all the anti gun safety gurus could have piped in.

No, then I would ask why you are wasting your time with a 9mm? I enjoy the hand-cannon... I mean 45 cal.

You should be put in the pansy house for suggesting that someones kid be denied the pleasures of riding on a motorcycle. You better just stay cowering inside your house all the time whimpering like a schoolgirl. You might get hurt if you wander out. Whoopdee doo you know people killed on a motorcycle. I knew people killed when they crashed their large clumsy 4wd stationwagon. Damn things should all be crushed.

Yea there is a source but your too dumb to read.....They're not supposed to diminish on the poles but they are.

Acutally, if you understood gobal warming as well as you understood how to flamebait, you would know that global warming will eventually lead to large ice advances akin to an ice age event. This is due to the interruption of the global ocean current system that curculates warm tropical waters to what would otherwise be very cold climes (e.g. the UK and northern Europe.) As for your probable 'news, source:

That would be Fox news and Ben Stein.

Oh, and evolution isn't true either, in fact, if you look at video from the Creationist Museum in KY (yes KY) you will learn that people had pet dinosuars before the flood. As a matter of fact, all the dinosaurs were vegetarians before Eve ate the apple.

Oh, and the Grand Canyon formed in 2 weeks after a large earthen dam burst, again, after that same great flood. Animals were disbursed on the planet by clinging to logs, except for the dinosuars. All of this and more from the museum, go to youtube to see actual video from the museum itself to see my source.

You will get worse mileage than the Acura, guaranteed. (smaller engine, poor match for the torque curve/vehicle weight, less efficient induction and ignition system v/s Honda's, less efficient drive mechanism with oodball gear ratios... not to mention all kinds of suspension issues with a FWD car.) Honda was, and is, the World's premier engine builder. Hard to beat them with an engine swap.

Now if you started with a car that had a lousy engine to begin with, like the current Smart....

Well... I'd pay you for a ride in the thing. A 13 second Smart, Y I P P E E. Looks like it handles poorly, but who cares, that is just silly fun.

Kugel--I'd rather get my information from Fox and Ben Stein than Al "settled science" Gore.

Leeches used for curing disease used to be "settled science".

You shut off debate, you shut off evolution of thought and ideas. Personally, I KNOW we have to reduce pollution. Just visit Beijing or Shenzhen and that will be clear. But don't try run a blitzkrieg of bull$h!t run by the "academics" who populate Hollywood and shout down anyone who questions the validity of their statements. Way too Stalinist for me.

Statistics can be massaged to represent anything you want. With the Earth being as old as it is, the accurate data we have represents a relative nano-second in its life. It's like doing a poll on the Presidential election with a sampling of 10 people--all residents of SFO or MAF. You'll get numbers but I wouldn't bet on their validity.

Oh, btw, AA's 3rd quarter will suck, too. ;) TC
