Hey ATA pilots,

EDITED for MORONS like Zipperhead.

Read this excerpt from an article related to ATA's shut down:

"ATA said in a statement that the cancellation of a critical agreement with FedEx Corp. for most of the airline's charter business left it unable to offset exorbitant fuel prices.

That agreement gave ATA a significant share of the airlift contracts to fly military members and their families overseas, ATA said. FedEx told ATA that that agreement would end when the government's 2009 fiscal year begins in October. "This termination is a full year earlier than the term specified in a letter of agreement between FedEx and ATA," the airline's statement said. FedEx officials could not be reached for immediate comment."

Man, this is a tough business... Sure, ATA may have died regardless due to high fuel and the slowing economy (less consumer spending on trips, etc.), but this type of backstabbing can be rough - but I guess FedEx's management would just say "it is just business"...

Are you kidding? As if FedEx pilots had ANYTHING to do with this ATA decision.

Hey ATA pilots,

Next time you see a Fedex pilot, make sure you wave and thank them (their management) for hastening your employer's early demise.

It's not the fault of the FEDEX pilots. That was a corporate decision.

If you want to lodge a protest, don't use FEDEX, use USPS , DHL or UPS.

Of course it wasn't the FedEx pilots' fault. Perhaps you should re-read what I stated (their management). I don't think most people were aware that FedEx had anything to do with it...

Lighten up Francis...

Here's how it went down:

Subodh, the ex ATA CEO informed FedEx that ATA would be entering the cargo business. This, for obvious reasons, pissed FedEx off. Subodh "resigned" and Fedex pulled the contract. You can thank him. If you were in Mgmt at FedEx, what would you do? I think the same thing.

Then, UA was going to buy the west coast ops and "give" it to Aloha to continue the code share with United. The BOD at ATA kept jerking around with the price and some other stuff. That, coupled with the economy and oil led UA to take their toys and go home thus leading to both ATA and AQ's demise.

If ATA went bankrupt because they lost a few military charters then that company was in a world of hurt to begin with. FedEx is in business to make money and if cancelling an agreement early was legal and helped them make money, then that's exactly what they should have done.

So now FDX corp has to subsidize airlines???

It may be a business decision on FedEx's part. On the flip side, after seeing the personal emotional trauma that my ATA friend and his family is going through today, I am shipping five boxes via UPS.

That is the beauty of contracted lift. you don't have to pay when you don't need it. FedEx did the same thinhg to Relient in 2002, they folded on the spot. It is business
