It may be a business decision on FedEx's part. On the flip side, after seeing the personal emotional trauma that my ATA friend and his family is going through today, I am shipping five boxes via UPS.

Okay......apparently you're an idiot.

Maybe you should get a clue how this military business works before you speak.

FDX does a huge amount for the military...every single day...military charters are a huge part of out business...i think u better get a clue!
what's north american anyway?..never heard of it...

maybe you should figure out how much an airline pilot should be paid for flying a widebody around the world. (hint-more then what you make)

By the way dont you belong in the charter forum, see ya later.

I don't think you can really blame FEDEX managment, either. Certainly not the pilots. They don't make those kinds of decisions.

I put the blame squarely on Gary Elmer, former COO of ATA and Subodh Karnik, former CEO of GAL. They couldn't run a train in circle with directions from an expert.

Everyone wants the majors to quit letting others do their flying under contract (Skywest, Mesa, Freesom, etc, etc, ad nauseum)

FedEx Corp takes back some of its flying from a sub-contractor and everyone is pi$$ed! What the hell, over?

This sucks for ATA. I know, I've been through it. There is nothing to say that will console those guys - it just sucks. They are the victims of another case of $hitty CEO roulette. That's it. It ain't FX's fault, it ain't their fault, it ain't even John McCain's fault. It's bad management - as usual.

For what it's worth, the company that deals with these charters is called Fedex Charter Program. Most people don't even realize it exists. It's not the Fedex Air Charter division.

If ATA went bankrupt because they lost a few military charters then that company was in a world of hurt to begin with. FedEx is in business to make money and if cancelling an agreement early was legal and helped them make money, then that's exactly what they should have done.

Dude.....you should just shut the F up.

Wasn't this a part of Tigers that FEDEX absorbed? If I remember correctly Tigers did a rather large amount of military charter flying and had several 747-200's that were in the full passenger configuration. Once FEDEX bought Tigers, the charter stuff came with. I think they even had a few hundred flight attendants. FEDEX did not want to operate in the pax business and ATA was one of many airlines that bid and flew some form of military charter work for FEDEX.
