I love annoying FFDO's so let me start again.

1. What rational person does this program? Plenty of them...what kind of rational person likes to "annoy FFDO's" for fun.

2. Why are so many new FO's... FFDO's? What about the around the block 8 year captain? New/Young FO's may have more free-time to go do the training, I have flown with plenty of 10+ year captains that pack heat. If your a captain, you probably come into contact with more FO's than other captains, so you may see more FO's with guns simply because of sample size.
3. Why do you never see the grizzled captain who has been in the industry since the 70's with a gun? Maybe they can't take the training...it is fairly physical. I have flown with people hired in the 70's that have packed heat. Maybe they just don't want to take the time to go do it.

4. Why when they tell you that they are an FFDO do you think "Somebody should call the FEDs about standards"? This right here just proves your an idiot...I'm not sure what "standards" you have, but I doubt they are objective or rooted in any sort of social science.

5. Who else thought when they heard about the accidental discharge... "I was wondering how long that was going to take" or "surprised they didn't hit the guy sitting next to them" or something of the "saw that one coming" variety...

Accidents happen...It is naive to think otherwise

If the guy was goofing off he messed up, I'm sure you have messed up before...well you made this post.

This program cracks me up. BudLight salutes you Mr. Gun Carrying Pilot Guy.

I'm a NON-FFDO, and don't intend on becoming one, but I'm perfectly fine with the program and those that choose to go through it.

Yes my "mess up" was a post on Flight Info... Which is like saying some of your pee missed the toilet.

His mess up is shooting a gun in the cockpit.

The reason old timers don't do the training with there 4 weeks of vacation a year is because they don't see a need.

The reason a 22 year old with a new blazer, flight case, and hat does the training... Again I'm just spit balling... But I'm guessing that they think it's cool to carry a gun and a badge.

So sure great program. I'm sure it is making Americans safer by the minute... Whoops unless they "mess up" and shoot themselves down.

Thank God not you.

There is a good distribution of pilots who are FFDOs. When I went through, most were captains with about 10 years of service. One guy had been at SW since the beginning, and was retiring in a year.

I know of many guys who retired as FFDOs. See above, even the 59 year old guy in my class made it through.

I don't know wtf you are talking about here.

I think it is pretty clear that you don't know what the hell you are talking about. You just don't like the program, and that is fine. You don't have to like it. But, you DO have to accept it. I hope I fly with you sometime. I would get a kick out of it.

Too bad it wasn't your FO who had a negligent discharge. He could have done the world a favor...

Hilarious that we are criticizing the 22 year old first officer "new guy" FFDO in a thread that spawned from a senior captain blasting a hole in the wall of an A319 during a flight.

How old was the captain in question, chances are he was flying since the 70's if he is a USAIR captain.

Your post is just your opinion and isn't based on any sort of factual information, quit trying to pass it off as such.

Apparently it only takes six and a half years for you to forget what happened...

While I agree that this Captain shouldn't be a part of the FFDO program, where in the hell did you get the idea that since you've been doing this longer that all FO's got involved in the airlines because they thought it was "cool".

While i'm all for learning from people who have put in their time and experience, we should have already learned what Sept. 11th, 2001 taught us. While carrying a gun is not for everyone, I suppose you'd only know it's worth if you were in the same situation as those pilots that day.
