:) Guys/Gals,

For the poolies who are starting to dry off for class, there isn't a lot of time to study/prepare. The FedEx package they sent: "F/O Starter Kit" is really overwhelming---with less than 2 weeks to prepare and study (instead of at least 30 like they normally prefer) for the Apr 9 class, what should I/we study? Just trying to see what I/we should concentrate on to "get a head start" and be as prepared as possible. Guess the title should be: "If I was going to SWA training in less than 2 weeks, I'd study/prepare/memorize________, ________, _________, etc." Can you notice the anxiety setting in? Thanks!

Personally? I'd learn how to drink beer while standing on my head.

Other than that I'd try to get a head start on memory items and flows if they included them. The rest of the course is spoon fed.

Giddee Up!

Try to stop thinking like you're still in the Air Force. You don't fly missions any more, you don't have good sorties, you don't worry about refusal speed or critical field length. Don't introduce yourself as Colonel and don't call people sir and ma'am. Don't try to wear your hat under your headset and for god's sake...leave the nomex gloves at home. Oh yea, don't try to fly the Guppy like its a F-16...you've got 137 people in the back that will thank you for that.

Just show up to Dallas and hope your liver makes it thru training. And give the Navy guys extra help...they always need it (especially the F-18 guys). Try to get paired up with a commuter pilot because they will help you thru training more than you can imagine.

Congrats...the long wait truly must have sucked but you've got a great job waiting for you on the other side.

Just sit in front of your laptop and have your wife say:

"Suspend"

"Resume"

"Suspend"

"Resume"

This will thoroughly prepare you for your OPC training with "all day Ray"

Got it! Looks like the long wait will be worth it! So far, looks like boxed memory items and checked items and flow are the most important! Funny posts, guys!

I don't care who you are, but that's funny right there.

Although I believe it's "Resume operation!"/"Suspend operation"

I don't think "All Day Ray" is still teaching over there is he? Funny tidbit, Ray was a Navigator in the AF and never a pilot. Either way, he was a very nice gentleman just a bit long winded, especially for EPT.

PERFCT 10, just know the memory items and flows. I'm sure you already know how to drink beer!

Are you guys staying at the Rennaisance or Holiday Inn Select??

Yeah, he's still there. We had him for OPC a few weeks ago.

Perfect 10-- I just finished class today. If you have any questions just shot me a PM.

Memory items and flows. Then spend time with the family and relax. I am proof that any fool can get through the course. It is a great time and will go by very quickly. A spare liver would come in handy as well. Congrats and welcome aboard!!

Cool, except they didn't give us the profiles in the welcome packet----just the memory items, limitations and calls.

Oh no. Dude you are screwed if you don't know the profiles. I'd do whatever you had to so you know them cold first day.

Shack! :pimp:
Just drink beer and dread the 13 year upgrade. Glad you're here.

You're already typed on the 737. Training shouldn't be much more than review. Just be extra careful to look out for fuselage cracks on the preflight. ;)

Dude-

You got a lot to do in a short time so get crackin. First, go to Spencers and get a Fart Machine (I recommend version 2). Then get a good coffee mug - you'll be glad you did when you get OPC with Ray.

Seriously...relax man. I was backpacking around Europe for 11 weeks, got back to the states and 2 days later got the call that I got a seat that just opened in the class starting 3 days later. Studyng before hand would help but you don't have to know everything when you show up. It's all about attitude here. There's some really good advice within the humor in the posts above, and ecb is spot on - look at that stuff a little every day and all will be good.

And PLEASE check the ego at the door, no one cares how you were the best squadron commander ever (if that's the case).

Welcome, brotha.

Just remember this, if I'm on your jumpseat and you're flying...and you engage the autopilot and say "airshow's over" I'll reach up and slap the side of your head.

For all the guys that show the more handsome side of their liver and personality with the info down cold I will happily make internet flash cards for all the poolies if someone will send me the info. If not that opens up a lot of free beer time for me.

Cheers

Cirrhosis more than one way to a rock hard abs.

The main thing you need to know is the Holiday Inn has a real nice half price buffet for lunch everyday. Find someone with a car a head back and eat there each day. Flows and callouts. You are going to have a blast. I agree with above....help the Navy guys....you know who you are...haha

since the fight is on, please tell the civilian guys shorts, sneakers, a webbed belt, and an OP t-shirt don't make for fancy bar attire. :O

Oh yeah and help us navy guys out...

And don't buy everything you see in the gift shop. You don't need that crap.

Shorts, sneakers and an OP tshirt most certainly do make for good bar wear. I'm not trying to get laid I'm trying to pack light.

How do you military guys fit all those clothes in your "kit" and still have room for your watches and sunglass case?

Gup ;)

Oh SNAP!!!! :)

As you can tell PERFECT10 there's quite a lot of civvies vs military here at SWA, but in the end we all drink the same beer and have a good time working together. Welcome aboard. My advice, don't study a damn thing. Enjoy your family, you'll have PLENTY of time to study while in Dallas.

hey guys,

i was in the Oct class. i bought the pass737 cards, and they helped a lot. many of the guys in class saw what we had, and they ordered them while in class. i think it was a benefit to have them ahead of time, just to get some studying time in.

good luck to you, and see you on-line.

ps--all new hires in 3 Oct class got OAK, as of April, some were able to bid out of it into PHX.

cheers,
NAV

Hey NAV,

Can anyone from OCT 3 class hold BWI yet? I know it is junior but was curious since movement has slowed down a bit.

Thanks

Yeah...so far, it seems that the majority of guys say there'll be plenty of time to study in Dallas: I like your advice and I think I'll take you up on that! Damn it's hard to get out of this military-style training program mentality!

bottom guys in bwi were hired in feb07 for the may vacancy awards. bwi only junior to dallas...
Interesting, a HOU SWA F/O told me last night that the most junior F/O @ BWI right now is a Jul 07 class guy....I may have misunderstood him.
