Trying to get a feel for Challenger 300 captians pay in the northeast, part 91. any help would be great. hows the plane? automation? fun to fly? could have done better? thanks

I'm flying a 300 now out west. I don't have any idea what the pay rate out east is. It seems that the 300 pay is about the same as the 604. Some places more being that there are a number of planes and not a whole lot of pilots. I know contract rates are pretty high as a result.

As for the plane...it's pretty good. Not really any weird issues. The avionics is the Proline 21, seen in many other aircraft and very capable. The performance is as advertised. It cruises in the low 40's at max gross most every day. I have been flying it for 2+ years and I think that every 300 driver you will ask will say the same thing...we love it. Does it have it's short falls, sure...not unlike every plane, but I think it comes closer to hitting the mark than any other aircraft I have flown.

Getting a training slot is a pain. The guys at Bombardier in Dallas are great. Most have actual time in the plane, some where even part of the original test group. They know it like the back of their hand.

Short falls...well it's a Bombardier product. Fighting with them regarding service center visits for inspections goes with the territory. Luckily it doesn't break down so you don't have to deal with them all that often. (Knock on wood!) The newer serial numbers have IFIS (Jepp charts) and a new interior that is suppose to be quieter. Some things that still need attention is the whole electric hydraulic pump mess. It's not a big deal, but there hasn't been a big push from Bombardier to come up with a solution other than a couple of bandaids. It's more procedural, but in reality they need to make a change to a new pump.

If you have any specific questions let me know...also the Flex guys on the fractional board will have alot more detailed info it you want to pick their brains. I have had some specific questions and they have been happy to help and are a great resource...good guys.

Good luck with the new gig...you will love the plane!

The CL-300 rocks!! Capt pay starts at 110k average. It is an amazing aircraft and I hope it is supported! Rum

Thanks for the info. sounds great. i don't have anything as of the moment, just getting my ducks in a row. lucky enough to have options! thanks again

Koolaid drinker. :D

At least it isn't a Falcon. ;) Just kidding--sorta. I'm not particularly impressed by it for various reasons, but the guys I know who fly it seem to like it "okay." My main impression with it was, "How many levers do they need to put on this seat for adjustment?" Took me ten minutes to find the right one to do what I wanted. Can you even open the side windows?

Who let Legacydriver out of his cage? I have read numerous posts from you over the years...I may have the title wrong, but "Legacy Bashing" comes to mind.

Anyone who has spent any time on this board knows your opinion, and most likely doesn't value it for the paper they wiped their a$$ with this morning.

Honestly, if someone posts a genuine question regarding the Legacy, I would expect nothing more than a well written and very informative response from you...but do you really need to litter all of the other threads here with your completely invalid remarks...seat levers and side windows...Seriously?

Move on.

Well said pilotguy...there isn't much wrong with the 300.

I honestly wish people wouldn't get on here and bash airplanes like they do...aka Legacydriver. We can all find somethings that we don't like about any airplane. We understand you like the Legacy....big deal.

I'm a "glass half full" kinda guy unlike others here....

Relax guys it wasn't a bash.

Just an opinion. I wasn't particularly impressed with it but having never flown it my opinion is uninformed. My initial impression of it was, "Why is everyone so worked up over this thing?" No big deal. As I said, those who I know with experience in it liked it okay so...

It's a Canadair....whadda ya expect

good plane....when it doesn't need to have an inspection. Seems like the boys in YUL need to learn a little about Customer Service. Otherwise, good plane to fly. .80 for 3000 mile in the FL400-450 range. I'm gettin 65K sittin in the right seat, beats the heck out of working for a living.

JoePa- Happy to help, let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll do what I can to answer them...just as Godfather said I dread service center visits but other than that it's a well designed machine.

Don't be hatin' on LegacyDriver. I think he finally got religion and now realizes what a superior product the Gulfstream is... :p ;) TC

P.S.--I believe that if "it looks right, it flies right". The CL300 looks great. Good luck, JoePa!

JoePa,

I cannot tell you pay, but I can tell you that the 300 is an excellent aircraft. The automation works great, other than when it is cold. You would think a Canadian aircraft could handle the cold. The down sides is that it is a hand full in cross winds and the potable water container is the biggest POS I have ever seen. If you use an automatic transmission fluid funnel, you can fill it just fine.

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

CL300Pilot.

The 300 is an OUTSTANDING aircraft. I could easily be happy flying one for the rest of my career. Pay should be in the 90K-120K range, depending on background and location.

As for legacydriver, what a quack. If I had to fly any RJ, much less a jungle jet for the rest of my life, I think I'd just pack it in...

I guarantee the ERJ--not to mention the Legacy which kicks ass--is better than anything built in f'ing Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mach .80 for 3000 NM? Woopie do. The Legacy does that all day long and with a LOT MORE cabin space. How big is that puny baggage compartment on the 300 again? HA. *eyeroll*

How light do you have to be in a 604 to get to FL410? That's what I thought.

Yer just pissed because you know I'm right.

My former Program Manager on the Legacy at my old job flies the CL-300 now and he says he would take the Legacy every time over it. And he's flown 'em all. With his backup I could give a rip what some anonymous "sizer" has to say.

In all seriousness though, enjoy it. That's what this is all about any way and I'm glad you found your ride. I feel the same about the Legacy. Would fly it forever without a complaint. All the best. <S>

This is exactly why I debated so much about posting a reply to your comments. Actually I deleted my first response as not to entice any futher posts from you.

I'm not going to stoop to your level and bash the legacy, it's the one thing that I hate reading most on this board.

What surprises me is that you don't understand that what you say here does nothing positive for your character in the eyes of other members.

Read it as somewhat tongue-in-cheek and you'll realize it isn't meant as badly as you are taking it.

Listen, if I offended you I'm sorry. Was just having a little fun in response to being called a "quack." If I can handle being called a quack and a crappy pilot, etc., etc., etc., then I think you can handle me poking fun at an inanimate object.

Thanks for the highroad reply, regardless. <S>

We evaluated the Challenger 300 for our operation and decided to go with the Hawker 4000 instead. It seemed to be a more complete airplane.

Specific items that we didn't like on the CL 300 included the fact that it is a GPS only airplane with no IRSs available, it has a puny environmental system with one pack and a trim air valve, and passenger ammenities are minimal with a tiny galley.

And, of course, we are already familiar with famed Bombardier support.

Cost of 300 type

It is rather expensive to buy 300 type!

If you work for large 135 or similar operator of course you have deal with training providers!

Price anywhere between 27000k to 37000k depending which provider! FSI of course more expensive!

Biggest problem is actually getting Slot for training! First available Initial slot 2009, until you lucky to get someone elses slot, due to cancelletation!

Their first priority is to training and provide class dates for new airplane buyers!

I think its fair to say this is how 99% of this board feels.

Its rather odd behavior. Is this really how one has fun?

Per the Stanton Report a Capt. makes from 73,000 to 116,000. Easy airplane for Type and to fly.

6 months flying the plane and I love it. No trouble in crosswinds that I've found. It does like to float if you flare too much, a technique which I seem to have perfected.

The only gripe I have is the location of the pax oxy manual drop switch. It's next to the APU and engine start switches and can easily be mistaken for them if you don't look at the switch you're reaching for. Many CL30 drivers have dropped the jungle by mistake. Once you figure out how to repack the masks it's not a big deal however.;)

Take the lid off of a coke bottle and cover the O2 knob. Looks ghetto but its no worse than dealing with the rubber jungle.
