Has anyone gotten a call in the last month for an interview with Cathay Pacific? Did anyone attend the Air Inc fair in ATL and get called yet? Wonder when they will start with the next round of interviews in the USA.

Cathay

I interviewed in SFO on the 13th of June and found out today that I was selected for phase 2 in Hong Kong. Septmenber seems to be the date for the next one. I was not in ATL

hey fellas good info. i just had a question about the freighter bases. how easy/hard would it be to get ord? i just put my stuff in last week and my profile isn't correct i've actually got a lot more pic now. also wondering about how long it takes to get called? thanks.

Cathay call

Hi there,

Well it took me 4 years to get my call!! and I spoke with a few from my interviewing slots and the said the same. I don't know how easy it would be to get ORD but they seemed to indicate that all bases have openings.

cessnaxdriver,

thanks for the reply. hopefully it's not 4 years. i've heard mixed things about cathay. do you work there and if so do you like it. thanks take care.

Cathay invite

Hello All,

Nope I don't work their yet. I was invited for a second interview in September and it was 4 years from initial app to phone call!! I kept updating every 6 months. I have a few friends that work their and they really enjoy it. No place is perfect but they seem to be happy with QOL, Sched, and equipment. Their starting pay is higher than other majors and they have a descent retirement. I am sick of the corporate scene and I don't trust the US carriers. Not to interested in moving to the Middle East so Emirates is out. I will let you know how the second one goes.

4 years?

Is 4 years typical to hear from CX? I've had an app in for about a year and was thinking they aren't interested since they haven't called - and I've been updating it about every 2 months or so. Guess I'll keep on trying. I've flown with several f/o's who have been called with apps in a lot less than 4 years - wish I could figure out the secret.

What will happen with the retirement age since the rest of the world seems to be going to 65?

Thanks to the CX guys with all the good info.

I got a call one month after applying. This was last June. My times were 3500 total and maybe 100Turbine PIC. Make sure you follow the instructions on the app explicitly and if you live in a base it may speed things up....thats why i think i got called so fast. good luck.

Took me almost two years to get an invite for the first interview in NYC. First round went well and I am headed for the second round in HKG next week.

How does one apply? Where can I find there qualification requirments?

Cpt. Underpants,
Do you know if they are conducting interviews in the US at the moment? I met with Cathay at the fair in ATL and was told I would get an invite. Just curious if you had any input for a wannabe.

They are conducting interviews in the states. I have 3 buds going to the next one in San Fran.

Hi!

I know a guy who had his 1st interview stateside. He decided against going to the 2nd interview in HK, as he decided HK wasn't for him.

Are people here applying for positions on the freighter fleet (FOs 400Fs) or the pax fleet (SO initially and later FO)?

For those applying to the freighter fleet, do you expect to move over to the pax fleet at some point are do you want to stay on the freighter fleet and keep your US domicile? I can understand why some people might not be keen on moving to HKG for a few years...

As of now, all FO's have to spend 3 years on the freighter before you can cross bid to the pax fleet. They do have pax bases in the states but you could end up in HK. As for me, I am off for my second interview in HK and if hired I'll evaluate if I want to bid pax ops or stay freighter. Pay is better in Pax ops so there is an incentive to go over.

We have guys flying past 60 on the freighter right now.

55 is the PAX retirement unles you are a check and trainer or unless you go to the freighter fleet.

Everyone thinks it will change very soon.

cheers

I have had my resume in for about 6 months. I have about 2100TT with about 1800 121 time in a couple of props and a bit of jet time. Do you think I can get a call with my current time? Thanks

For a Second Officer position, perhaps. Some new joiner S/O's (cruise pilots) I have flown with recently have had 737 or 320 command time time though. Long shot, but give it a try.

I don't know if BJ is a member of the AOA (the AOA membership is being kept in the loop) so here's the latest:

Negotiations between the AOA (Aircrew Officers' Association) and CX management are ongoing and working towards pay rises across the board and extension of retirement age - CX pax fleet currently retires at 55, HKCAD (Civil Aviation Department) mandates 65.

When should the talks be concluded? Don't know.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Just jumped ship after 8 years of C-17 AD, now turned reservist. Crossing my fingers for a call in the future.

Thought I'd revive this thread.

Anyone who originally posted here have any news or info that is current? Some were going for second interviews etc. Competitive times now, etc.?

Would love to hear from everyone in the know. Thanks!
