This is where ALPA needs to step up. Had the issue been pilot error, the FAA would be doing press interviews for all the major networks and the public will be calling for the pilot to be fired. This controller is facing the devistating consequences of retraining.

You know what I love? English! It's reeaally fun. It's got adverbs and adjectives and other neat-o parts of speech! I heard about this one that modifies a noun - totally rad.
Like someone else said: It was a miss. What kind of miss? A near miss.
Wow, look who George Bush didn't leave behind. Any English expert would agree that the term "near hit" would more accurately describe this aeronautical phenomenon than the term "near miss" does. "Narrowly avoid" would trump them both.
