Hey General,
You friend Oberstar says no,guess you get to keep Delta your Delta!
The reality is that LHR slots go for big bucks and the AF BOD would blow a gasket if their mgt just decided to "give" away 10's of millions of dollars in assets for free to Delta.
"Ed Hauenstein said Delta needs a minimum of two pairs for its planned service from New York's John F. Kennedy Airport and at least one pair for an Atlanta route. It has been in talks to lease, buy or borrow slots on the open market or from alliance partners such as Air France or Alitalia, he said.
But I guess in your world it makes perfect sense for Air France to give slots to their Skyteam partner Delta and then make their other Skyteam partner CAL pay for them and then make their other Skyteam partner NWA pay for them from KLM?
Yes, in your world only Delta would get theirs for free.
Very good point. I also feel that the dollar will start to come back toward the end of 2008. The Euro will then start feeling what we are feeling now. The credit crunch among other factors, will reach them as well. It'll just take a little time.![]()
If it made them more money at the end of the day I think they would do it. With joint operations per the agreement both parties get paid out. I cant say this is the case but I can say that if the bean counters determine more green will be in the bank by doing things in a certain way then they will make it happen.
Don't get me wrong I like DAL, I have buddies who are still there, heck my old man is DAL. So I am pro Delta.
I am anti anything that lets AF in the back door or gives them any control, or BOD seats. Taking money from AF will not be a good thing for DAL in the long term.
The French are only doing this to keep DAL out of a UAL merger, not because it's good for DAL. Because it's good for AF.
All things considered, and IMHO, a UAL merger is a better move. SFO and ORD vs MSP and DET. Tilton is just about begging for someone to take over his airline. Less reglatory issues, the folks at ORD and SFO arent oncerned about losing slots, jobs and airline service, the folks in DET and MSP are.

Yeah, Air France already flies to ATL, on an A340. We fly a 764 and a 763ER for the other two flights. We haven't flown INTL flights from MCO in a decade, and AF doesn't fly there now. CVG has seasonal AF service during the Summer on an A330, along with our daily 777 to CDG. Any other cities you want to be wrong about?
How's Lowes doing by the way?
Bye Bye--General Lee
Do you read any of the articles I post on here? I don't make them up, and you are free to post your own if you find them. Most say that DL/NWA would pass the regulator muster before a DL/UAL would, unless there was MAJOR sell off. No thanks, we would rather keep as much as we can. All of the analysts (and not Gordon Bafoon who is paid by Pardus Capital to promote a DL/UA tieup) think the better choice is DL and NWA. Think World Domination with less debt and overlap. Will AF and KLM benefit? Sure they will. Will AF tell us where to put RJs? Um, no? It will be a good investment for them, since the dollar is so weak. It is like a half off sale. Hey, they are timing the market just right....
And, they only get 25% of the voting rights. That's it.
Bye Bye--General Lee
"Borrow Slots", you crack me up.
You let your neighbor borrow your lawn mower, you don't borrow assets that are worth 10's of millions. The CEO of AF would get fired (heck, any airline CEO would deserve to get fired for just letting somebody "borrow" LHR slots, "for free". Get real.
Less debt? As of today UAL has a lower market cap then NWA does.
Less regulatory issues, stop drinking the kool aide. Use your head. MSP, DTW and MEM will fight like hell because they all stand to lose big time. The folks in ORD and SFO could care less because they know if DAL doesn't want the gates and slots someone else will. Denver, knows that they have more to offer then SLC so they won't put up a fight either.
Now this is the best part:
"And, they only get 25% of the voting rights. That's it."
You write a lot of stupid things but this takes the cake, you are actually in favor and think that giving away 25% of the control of your airline to a competing foreign carrier is somehow a good thing. IT'S NOT!
Learn to quit while you are way behind.
Here we have another expression of the General being, well-an idiot!
The guy clearly was trying to infer that Air France does not need to fly directly to these cities when the OWN YOUR BUTT!
-Duh!
You are a waste of skin, General

I''m not sure about the DAL/AF deal, but I think it's aligned similar to NWA/KLM. Yes, they do borrow the slots--not pay for them. They also share all costs and revenue on these trans Atlantic flights. NWA and KLM have been doing it for years. Both stand to benefit.
