I think you are wrong, and regardless, the Japanese love golf. So, one golf game near Mt Fuji will settle it. Let the attorneys deal with it----that is why they are paid the big bucks. Our attorneys are great at Kerioke I hear....

Or, we will just call it Delta Orient. Hey, why did you guys drop the Orient part of your name? Wasn't your full name "Northwest Orient" on those treaties? I think it was? Can you just change your name not to include "Orient?" If you can, then we will change to "Delta."

Bye Bye--General Lee

Just remember we(America West) aquired US Airways and look which name we went with. Either way a merger between you guys will probably go smoother, you're both legacy. With ours I just don't think the US Airways guys could fathom being bought by what they saw as a commuter airline. No sarcasm, best of luck to both pilot groups if it does happen.

This is how it shall be.....and fine by me so I'll never have to share a flightdeck with that General Knob guy.

You probably will, and I want you to drip the tanks three times on each walkaround---and I don't care if it is -30 degrees outside. And, when you are done, can you buy me a Starbucks latte? I'll pay you back.......(eventually, in the crew lounge, when I see you next....)

In 1951, Northwest helped establish Japan Airlines by leasing its aircraft and crew to the new company. In 1952, under the U.S.-Japan bilateral aviation treaty, Northwest and Pan American were the two U.S. flag carriers awarded rights to fly not only from the U.S. to Japan, but to pick up and carry passengers beyond Japan. Northwest remains the largest non-Japanese carrier at Tokyo's Narita Airport, with flights to several cities in Asia including Seoul, Busan, Manila, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Bangkok, Singapore, Saipan and Guam.

The airline took delivery of the Boeing 720B in 1961, and in 1963, with the new Boeing 707, and the retirement of the last propeller aircraft, Northwest became the first U.S. airline with an all-turbofan jet fleet, hence the slogan "Northwest Orient: The Fan-Jet Airline." Northwest began operating the Boeing 727-151 in 1964.

On 1 October 1986, Northwest purchased its competitor, Minneapolis-St. Paul-based Republic Airlines, and adopted its three-hub network centered around Minneapolis-St. Paul, Detroit, and Memphis. Northwest dropped the word Orient from its brand name after the merger.

The 1952 treaty also offered immunizations to the Japanese population and government from any effects of kool-aide produced in Monroe, LA and shipped out of Atlanta.

Lead Arsenate - makes yummy cool-aide.

While we are on that topic - General, what's your guess on how this will shake out?

Since you are close to an upgrade, your opinion is particularly interesting. Based on your DOH NWA seniority you would just now be able to bid into a 757 in Detroit. My friends (with equal NWA DOH) would be somewhere between a Compass Regional Jet and the Panel of a classic 747 in Anchorage.

Nobody has started the merger scenario thread - give us a sneak peak.... :)

My vote is that it will not happen. That what we see is a stock pump by those who realize the market lost its focus on fundamentals a long time ago and who instead buy and sell stocks depending on whether Brittany goes into rehab with Dr. Phil.

The DOJ did not kill the US Air UAUA deal, common sense did. In an election year nobody in Washington is going to want a deal that closes a hub.

They started calling themselves Orient when the Pacific stuff started in earnest and dropped the Orient after the Republic merger, but the name of the company was never actually changed. On paper, the company name has always been Northwest Airlines. Northwest Orient was kind of the same thing as NWA, a name for the airline but not the official name of the company.

First of all, if any merger has to take place, I would hope it would be DL and NWA, since there is less overlap and I think the NWA employees would embrace a new leadership and throw out Steenland and his cronies.

As far as name and headquarters, no doubt it will be Delta and based in ATL. There must be a reason we have a RED Delta widget on our new paint scheme. Maybe it was a sign.

As far as seniority integration goes, that would be interesting. Most of our older pilots left for their lump sum, leaving only about 1000 over 50, and 500 over 55. That would put us at a severe disadvantage for DOH merge. So, I would think it would be a percentage type merger--if you are in the top 5% of you current company---you would be in the top 5% of a merged company. There would be fences to keep DL people off the 744 for 5 years, and similar fences for the 777, along with a possible fence down for the DC9 pilots if we think the new Delta would just dump them. (unlikely since they feed DTW and MSP well right now) The MD90 option is always out there to replace the DC9 quickly, and the DC9 guys would probably have an easy time moving up to that plane and they are available now for relatively cheap (rumor has $9 million each including engines--with around 100 out there available--waiting to be replaced by current A320 orders). I am sure we all have watched the USAir and AWA ordeal work out, so we both would know what could happen if one side is too mad and turns into a crybaby.

I see continued expansion in the INTL arena for both airlines, with new 777s coming our way, along with 737-700s for smaller long range stuff (replacing 757s on Quito and Guayaquil soon from ATL). We are getting a second 777 sim soon to be ready to go in July, so I think that fleet will grow. The 787 would be a great 767ER replacement eventually.

Hub wise, I would see a CVG and MEM downsizing, but not total withdrawl. Everyone knows there are LCCs waiting for free hubs and gates to move into without large expense, even though both those cities are not big O&D cities. Look at PIT. That airport was cleaned out when USAir left big time, and nobody has really replaced them.

As far as my upgrade goes, things are still moving here at DL, and we are still getting those new Boiengs this year. Nothing has changed so far, and I can hold Capt on a couple types. We'll see, I am having fun on the INTL side now.

Not true. NWA stock was up over 25% today and is currently up 23% for the day. Delta airlines is currently only up 10%. I just made a 25% return on my $ in 2 days. The writing is on the wall for a NWA/Delta merger with NWA being the initiator.

Not just because I'm a DAL employee and am partial, but, I have a few buds that are hedge fund managers in NY. They all feel Delta will be the buyer and NWA being bought....

CVG and MEM go away, ATL, NYC, SLC and LAX stay for DAL as well as DTW and MSP for the NWA end.

HQ in ATL; Minnie doesn't have the same love for NWA that ATL has for Delduh.

How can a FO order another FO to dip tanks? Just because you are a dungeon master doesn't mean you are in charge of an jet or a crew.

That's funny, I have always known it as drip sticks. The only "dip stick" I know is you. Welcome to HOT LANTA, you dip stick!

You will know a lot about being an FO, at Gulfsteam INTL, flying the Beech 1900, after you pay $17,000 to qualify. Have fun with that Sarge.

Step up for once ALPA!

SO the question of the day is...will ALPA make the effort to give seniority some merit and integrate by DOH? If it were any other union you could take your seniority with you.

ALPA does not have the balls to follow through with this idea. It seems that the seniority goes to he who has the most money left to contribute when the dust settles.

I call bullsheet.

No, I am not ex USAir.

I bet you wish you make $17k a year. Maybe then you could move out of your mom's basement.

No, you have that wrong again, I am moving out of your Mom's house, because I wore her out.
