Yep it is coming. Maybe not in two weeks, but soon. Wonder how long I will be furloughed for.

You are right. All the signs are there. This has probably been in the works for at least 2 years now. My prediction was a NWA/Delta merger in Fall '08 but it looks like it could be earlier. Interesting times to say the least.

there are some differences between DL and NW, but they are very small compared to AWA and AAA. Frankly the only airline out there that was way, way out of wack was AAA. A merger with any airline but them is a lot easier.

You got that right, AAA was out of whack with anyone. There is no other airline with the majority of its pilots hired in such a concentrated period way back in the eighties.

We at AWA were lucky enough to get that, as long as you fellas elswhere stay away from LCC your deal should be a cakewalk in comparison.

I have predicted this merger for some time. I also move the announcement date ealier than I originally anticipated which was end of 2008. It will take well into 2009 or longer to work out the details. I just hope its not a melt down like Airways/AWA.

I'll agree with you on that one. I'd venture to say that with the very little overlap a DAL/NWA would have, ATL would make MEM dissapear, and DTW would make CVG dissapear. All the other hubs, MSP/SLC too far apart, ANC/LAX.
I think that the new airline would make a nice fit.
I read an article in one of those money mags that said a combined UAL/DAL would generate $800 million dollars a year in (I hate this word thanks to Parker) "synergies), while a DAL/NWA combo would produce over $2.1 billion in synergies.
Of course a UAL/DAL deal would cover much more of the globe, but there would be more routes/hubs/aircraft to be divested.
Just my .02

For the benefit of those who have not experienced a merger, "synergies" is management-speak for "doing more work with less people". :(

Heyas,

Rumor is that the deal will be announced Monday, along with a pre-arranged deal between the NWA and DAL MECs for seniority integration.

Word is that for those hired before 2002, it will be a ratio integration, and those after will be DOH. No fences, no bump, no flush.

So in your mind what would that ratio effectively mean for a delta new hire say Sep 07? Just ahead of a NWA new hire who came aboard NWA after that date but behind all other NWA pilots? Perhaps because the NWA pilot group is smaller, NWA new hires would be ahead of Delta new hires with same day date of hire due to the afformentioned ratio? Anybody?

Rumor from whom? If your source is one with "nice hair" I wouldn't hold your breath.....

...correct. In addition, the word "Synergies" also means that the shareholders will make money....folks in Wall Street will make money ( in the short term)...and employees will be ticked off...for a long ...long...time.

Oh...and if the planned "Synergies" don't work out...the employees will be "asked" to "donate" to save their jobs.

I think that would be fair except we would need some fences to keep guys from getting bumped out of current bases. We should be able to stay in our base and current seat without getting bumped by someone from the other airline. I would go for ratio's for everyone except newhires and I'd be happy to do a DOH integration for all 2007 hires at both companies. (Since I would be senior to all NWA new hires anyways) :)

By synergies they mean job cuts. The problem with this integration is that NW brings a bunch of aircraft to the table that DL retired 15 or more years ago. They will probably be sacrificed in short order. Not to mention the fact that there won't be a stampede by DL guys to get into NW bases but there might be one by NW guys into DL bases if serious protections are not put in place. I'm just hoping it doesn't happen.

Or the Feb Classes? Here's to hoping this doesnt happen  . Time for another beer!!

Even if a merger is announced in the near future it is unlikely it will effect the planned hiring at Delta for the next six months or so. Airplanes are coming onboard. Delta needs pilots to fly those planes. The intergration will not be complete for some time if this merger happens.

First off.. how many things in this industry have been GONNA HAPPEN IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS!!!! FOR SURE, DOOOD!!!

Believe it when you see it..and when it does happen... take it in stride and do what you can.

IF...and IF this actually does happen.... I don't believe there will be any furloughs, and there will likely be a pretty lengthy integration. All this talk of a preworked out deal- have you people had your head in the dirt the past 50 years? When has a seniority integration in a merger been worked out prior to a merger, undercover, with no extended bickering or disputes? Not gonna happen.

Regardless... I hope whatever happens helps DL survive better in the long run for our careers....and for the benefit of all U.S. Americans and the Iraq.

Now you stop it right there Mister! Ms. South Carolina is a beautiful and talented individual who wants to give maps to every child especially such as all those in U.S. America and the Iraq. We should help the South Africa and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our futures and such as. When cabotage comes you will be glad these peoples have maps, because they will be flying us to our destinations such as here and stuff.

PCRJ, The NWA MEC had pre-merger agreements with Midway and the Trump shuttle in the early 1990's although NWA backed out of both.
